Matt Duchene’s name keeps coming up as trade bait in Colorado even though he won a gold medal for Canada in Sochi and was very strong at the World Cup, too. The Islanders (two goals or fewer in nine games this season) are dying for somebody to play with John Tavares. If they were to offer up right-shooting defenceman Travis Hamonic and a forward off their roster or a good prospect, it might get done. Ryan Strome or farmhand Michael Dal Colle, maybe.

Sounds like that's his guess on the offer, not the actual framework of the deal.

Hamonic is a good player but Johnson and Barrie already occupy the top 2 RD spots on the team.

Deal would make sense, the Islanders have to do something to get their team jump started.

Hall would have looked real good with Johnny-T to bad Snow (and every other GM) tried to screw over the oilers instead or offering a reasonable deal. A little off topic but I'm still a little upset

I would not trade Hamonic for Duchene. Something around MacKinnon? Sure. But not Duchene.

I really like Hamonic, but I think you may have a disconnect in your perceived value of him as a player.

I'd like to base a trade around Tyson Barrie for John Tavares, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

The Avs are what? 29th in the league in scoring?

The Duchene rumors are stupid, just as they were last season.

This team needs offensive help, not to subtract the top offensive player on the team.

If Sakic is really going to move Duchene, he should be targetting a left-handed defenseman. Preferably one who can penalty kill well.

Possibly available for Duchene...

I'm still a firm believer that they would not have worked out together.

very possible, but even if they are on separate lines he would have at least would have taken some of the good D match ups away from him. Hall and Taveras can each drive a line.

That's a fair answer that I understand.

My point was more that I'd rather give up assets for MacKinnon and not Duchene. I'm not a fan of Duchene. and MacKinnon can play RW with Tavares. I'd rather have the versatility.

No place for Hamonic. Hamonic also doesn't get you Duchene.

To the poster that said they'd consider MacKinnon for Hamonic...no kidding you would. No Avs fan would though.

Duchene plays all 3 forward positions and is arguably the best player on the team. Duchene has a different skill than MacK set but would mesh really well with Tavares.

Duchene can play RW? That's news to me. Another reason I would want MacK over Duchene is because MacK is right handed. We need more of those, for the record.

Even if we were to consider trading MacKinnon, we'd need a young #1 type defenseman coming back along the lines of Lindholm/Jones. Last I checked the Islanders don't have any of those.

First thing that came to my mind as well. Avs fans?

He's played a lot of RW last couple of years, that shouldn't be an issue.

And yeah this whole Avs should trade offense for defense is stupid, has anyone seen our goals per game ranking?

Also, just stop the trading MacKinnon talk. That's not even in the realm of possibility.

I think that would probably be pretty fair value for the Avs. But it really doesn't fit our needs at all.

Our Defense is our strong point to our roster at this point, we have EJ and Barrie on the Right side, Zadorov and Weirdo on the Left side and Bigras in the minors who's close to NHL ready.

We need more help on Offense in the Top 6, and this trade would just further solidify this problem.

I'm strongly against trading Duchene. But, if we were to find a trade for Barrie(For example Barrie for RNH) then this would be a Duchene trade that makes some sense. But still one I would prefer not to make.
