How Do You Feel About The Leafs’ Chances This Year?

Curious where everyone’s at with feelings on this team having seen over half the season, starting so great followed by this somewhat strange recent slide.

IF soup is for real or a healthy Fred steps up , then we are top 5/6 in cup ranking

IF we get the 2 guys i want us to,,i think we are 2/3 in cup ranking

Advancing to the Conference Final won't be easy, but should be possible with this group. But then ... I have a feeling it will be 0 - 4 there without decent goaltending.

I feel like we are probably an underdog when compared to Tampa, Vegas/Colorado.
Carolina traditionally gives us trouble.
The East division teams are all reasonable match ups.

The skaters are a legit cup contender. I can see us making the third round and the cup is attainable without it being a Cinderella run.

I'm worried about the goaltending. If Campbell is the saviour the way that Binnington and Murray were, then this is a great team. If Campbell isn't the saviour, I don't know if there's a group of skaters in the league that can make up for .900 goaltending in a 7 game series against Tampa Bay or Colorado.

to me, Anything can happen in a 7 game series. The Leafs are clearly the best team in Canada. Not even close in my mind. That's not to say any of VAN, EDM, WIN, CGY, MTL cannot beat us in a 7 game series. But to me, it would be a clear upset if they did. I have yet to see a single team dominate us in a season series, let alone a whole game. Our losses have been due to not finishing, and lack of goaltending. The odd game we let slip away by napping. But none of the losses were we completely foiled by all 21 guys on the other team and had no answer. No matter where the Leafs end in the standings, and regardless of who they face in rounds 1 and 2, I figure they will have about 65% chance of advancing in each series.

(Round 1) 0.65 x (round 2) 0.65 = 42% chance of advancing through rounds 1 AND 2. I'll take that

Tbh the last few weeks has arguably been their best play of the season.

The earlier season wins were far too dependant on a hot PP.

The recent losses haven't been the result of poor play.
That's a big part of what scares me. We've played well and lost, haven't overcome terrible goaltending. Throw an extra 5-4 win or two in during our strong play and I probably don't think twice about it

Yup this can happen. To me this has been the most tolerable losing streak I can remember. Sure the games have been frustrating, but the boys played well enough to win in almost every loss with the exception of maybe 1. A stretch like this could definitely happen in the Ploffs, but they have put themselves in as good of a position to succeed as anyone in the league really. Not to mention, I fully expect Fred to return to some form where we feel comfortable riding the hot hand between him and Jack. He was not giving us a chance in that losing stretch. Something that is not characteristic of Fred most of the time. Say what you will about him as a goalie, I am also critical. But during his tenure as the Leafs starter, he has given this team a chance to win more often than not. He is no where near a top 10 goalie in the league, but he has the ability to do so for stretches of time. And has proven that throughout his career. This year he has yet to do so, but he usually has 1 month every year where he is unbeatable. Hopefully that is in May/June

I just hope we don’t play Colorado. If Kadri exploded for that series it would be a suicide watch for Leafs fans. And don’t think he won’t be a monster if we play them.

It would be funny if Kadri gets into it with Thornton again and tries to pull the beard. This time Thorton is on our side and Kadri is on the opposing side.

Bad Goaltending didn't bother us much when our scoring was on a tear. So not if but when our guys (Marner, Matthews, JT, Nylander) get scoring again and with Campbell playing as good as he has all season, it'll be pretty exciting.

The last two weeks have really put a bunch of doubt in my head.
Yeah, I've been that way all season. Just don't think they can get it done with the salary structure and scrambling around for 5 or 6 guys every season.

Hope I'm wrong though.

It comes down entirely to goaltending in my opinion. Everything else is in place (with flaws of course).

We're as good as anyone not named the Lightning with decent goaltending.

Based on playing in the weakest NorthDiv, I'm expecting Leafs to enter the final 4 as the underdogs, regardless of who we play in round #3.

If we can't win a round or 2 under his pandemic realignment then there is something seriously wrong with the makeup of this team. IMO

i wonder what the poll would have looked like after the Edmonton series. Through the ebbs and flows and ups and downs of the season, I have felt the same the whole time. Team is good enough to win, I'm just not sure this is their year.

How do they get better then? I hate to say it, but it comes back to cap allocation. If they will be the weakest team in the final 4 with 4 guys making 40+M dollars, then how do you improve from there? It all comes back to that. IMO, they can not win it all with that salary allocation.

Unfortunately Tavares is the one to get rid of and hes got a NMC so they're handcuffed.

Third round should be the expectation. Round two would be a disappointment. Round one would be an embarrassment.
I'd stay away from the main boards if that happens, the goal is still to contend but a playoff win, even against the lowly Habs or Flames would be so satisfying.
