I can see what you are saying, but, you should always grab the best player. It seems like one amazing superstar a McDavid is better to build around then 2 Evander Kanes or a Kane and a Pelech.

Especially since most of the offers I see being offered is a last 1st.

A player drafted late in the first round will usually turn into a 3rd liner or bust. So, a 3rd liner + for getting the less talented player doesn't seem worth it to me.

If you can get a player like Dickenson like you have been suggesting then yeah it could be worth it.

Putting Schaefer in the same breath as a #1 pick to McDavid is already a problematic starting point for gauging real value.

This is so true and why I have been advocating for quality over quantity and not trading down to acquire someone like Hagens for example. This is a weak draft and the quality drops steeply after maybe the top 2 projected best players available. Just having a quantity of players doesn't get you anywhere.

I'm perfectly content with the Sharks taking Misa if the Islanders are dead set on taking Schaefer. Schaefer is the better prospect but is on the same tier as Misa. The Islanders just don't have the leverage needed to get some huge haul here.

So they should just take the better prospect and call it a day.

They could and should if they feel he fits their timeline better than Misa does. Forwards tend to peak earlier both in terms of getting there and hitting their prime.
