Demidov has to be the MTL answer to Raymond if their rebuild has any validity. Suzuki is more of a comparable to Larkin. Similar to the teams rebuild timelines themselves; most (not all) of the MTL comparables are a couple years younger than the DET guys.

How can Suzuki NOT be a comparable to Raymond but Larkin can be a comparable to Suzuki? Unless the reason you don't compare them is one is a C and the other is a winger?

It has nothing to do with who’s better as a player. It has to do with their player profile and role within the organization. Both Suzuki and Larkin are around 5-6 years older than the teams main core of rebuild prospects, both team captains, 1st line centers, good 2 way players, decent bet to be around a point per game or just below, both ideally going to be pushed to the 2nd or 3rd best forward on the team in the coming years. Larkin is ~3 years older than Suzuki, but Raymond is ~3 years older than Demidov.

Raymond is an elite offensive 1st line winger, good all around game, not overly big or small, plays a skill game and can be the teams main play driver, even as a winger. He is around 6 years younger than Larkin, and has likely already surpassed him to become the teams best player. He is a good bet to be between a 75-95 point scorer for the foreseeable future. While Demidov is still too young and unproven to match this description as of now, this is exactly the description MTL hopes he can match by his age 22 season. I’m not interested in who is better in each comparison, it mostly comes down to personal preference.

It’s part of what makes comparing these teams interesting; they have both seemingly followed a similar path in their rebuild and have a lot of players with similar archetypes in similar roles, even though the quality of the players is not always the same. For example, I would match Edvinsson to Guhle, ASP to Hutson, Seider to Reinbacher, Cat to Caufield, etc.
These players are not all as good as each other right now, maybe ever, but the hope is that they can fill similar roles within their organization.

This part can be applied to Suzuki though (if you change winger by center).

ITs easier to compare position by position though, but then I feel like Larkin won't be nearly as good by the time the wings get a real window for a stanley cup. Thats why i prefer comparing Suzuki and Raymond when it comes to their respective cup window.

The difference is that Suzuki is putting up these numbers 3 years older than Raymond. He was a 60 pt player at Raymond’s age. Lucas is way better lol.

Demidov is the X factor between these two teams. What he becomes - the 2nd coming of Kaprizov/Kucherov or more of a 60-70pt guy - will decide Montreals fate.
