Of course now the Wings/Sens/Jackets actually try so every game is that much more important. Beck got a pass because of 3 games in 3 nights but looking forward to see what he can do.
I'm hoping they deploy him on the 4th line with Dvo at LW, and they can trade draws.

Anderson-Evans-Gallagher
Dvorak-Beck-Armia

Back to Monty against Tampa. He's bounced back well from rough outings, but the team itself also has to get back to making smarter reads.

I'm thinking of going alternating starts for the foreseeable future.

A regulation win would put montreal 1 point behind Tampa just to muddy the playoff picture even further.

Ok boys, time to re-learn how to play in your own zone because playing pond hockey against every teams with big offensive canons is kinda asking to be burned every time.

So great to watch games that means something. And this one is surprisingly meaningful for both teams. We could be 1 pt behind if we beat them in regulation. Bringing them in the hunt for a playoffs spots.

As for the goalie, we need to start Monty so he can shake his bad performance off. Putting Dobes might send a bad message to Monty. And anyways, Dobes gets the other start Thursday.

I'm not worried about feelings at this point. We are in a dog fight for the playoffs with 30+ games to go. Give the start to the goalie who gives us the best chance to win -- Dobes. Mix in Monty when Dobes needs a break. If Dobes shits the bed and Monty earns starting position back -- then do that. Let these guys fight it out for the #1.

I don't think it's about feelings. But more about if you give the spot to Dobes and he shits the bed like you said, now you are stuck with two goalies with confidence issues.

Now if both goalies were two established 1a/1b starters, I would agree with you. But Dobes is a rookie with only 5 games in his sleeves, you don't proceed the same way with him.

Also, I'm of the group that think Monty is really uneven in his performances. But it's not like he was shit before Dobes came in.

Nah, you just go to both guys and say that we feel like we can win any given game with either of you in the net. Outside of back to backs, we are going to go with whoever won their last game.

If either guy wilts because of competition, then you know you don't have your goalie of the future.

The goalie issue, is getting close to a crossroads.........
My hope is we get a good thing going between Monty and Dobes where they drive each other to be better.
The Bruins got a few years out of Ulmark and Sway.

Soon, maybe not quite yet, but soon the team will have to take anyone's feeling out of the goalie issue, and play the guy who is playing well. Monty or Dobes.
The pressure is firmly more on Monty than the kid.

I know the team is in a different place, but guys have traditionally gotten an insane amount of rope under MSL (except Xhekaj for some reason). Look at the amount of chances Primeau got before they finally cut ties.

Monty will get the start and keep the ball for another week or two.

You guys are going way to fast with Dobes.
Fair....we are excited.....but he has a hot hand right now and that doesn't change the fact that IMO he is giving us the best chance to win -- until he doesn't. I get it....we need to take it easy and with respect to your other comment about hurting both their confidence, I think that is reasonable. But we will just have to agree to disagree. Let our goalies fight it out for top dog and whoever comes out on top earns it.

Ultimately what the hell do I know anyways. MSL will decide based on his experience and what is right. I trust him at this point.

I think that would be jumping the gun with Dobes. It's hard to imagine him wilting under pressure, but he very well could wilt if thrown into a starter's job too soon. The kid has had five NHL starts.

We preach patience with the rebuild. Part of that patience should extend to pacing the development of our young players.

I think both scenarios are possible but a little too soon. Though if Monty as another bad performance next game and Dobes is solid, there might be a decision made in that regard but I would still wait a bit. We have 2 more back-to-backs coming soon before 4 nations (in the same week I think), so it's a moot point.

How is it jumping the gun? He doesn't get the starters job, nobody does.. they keep playing as they keep winning. If Dobes loses on Tuesday, Monty gets the next net.

It's a completely fair situation when the younger goalie is playing hot and winning games. You don't just leave that on the bench. If you want to establish a meritocracy, that's what you do.

It's healthy competition. No one gets a start they didn't earn.
