Naw I think they see what needs to be worked on, and they'd rather put him in when he's ready then throwing him in the deep end. Can't risk hurting his confidence and turning him into Primeau.I am glad someone agrees with me. Game 53 for Monty already. Is something going on with Dobes, or is the book out on him already?
We have three B2Bs left, including one this week. We haven't seen Dobes since March 12th. Monty has played four straight, and tomorrow will be his 5th. Then we have a B2B Thur/Fri.Naw I think they see what needs to be worked on, and they'd rather put him in when he's ready then throwing him in the deep end. How many B2Bs do we have
Oh come on man, that's pure revisionist history. We have three B2Bs left, including one this week. We haven't seen Dobes since March 12th. Monty has played four straight, and tomorrow will be his 5th. Then we have a B2B Thur/Fri.
See, this is why I wanted us to trade for a vet backup like Mrazek. I had to eat crow when Dobes came in and played so well, but now everything I said was true.

Yeah, he is going to have to play one of the B2B games. It isn't revisionist. I said way back then that we should get a vet backup and specifically named Mrazek to have insurance just in case. We could always play Dobes, Monty AND Mrazek, with Mrazek there if Dobes isn't ready. It's called being risk-averse.Oh come on man, that's pure revisionist history.
I can see him facing the flyers this week
Maybe. The fact is, Dobes isn't playing for whatever reason and we are running Monty into the ground. We are playing him like he is Brodeur or something. I don't like it. I like Monty a lot as a goalie, but this is too much workload. HE IS TOP 5 IN GPs!!!!!No, it seems like Marty saw that people called for Monty to get some rest and decided to let his ego run the ship and run Monty further into the ground.
His comments didn't speak anything about not wanting to expose Dobes to high pressure games or anything, it was all about how now isn't the time to 'send messages' and we 'wouldn't be here without Montembeault' as if either of those things make any sense when talking about playing your back-up goalie.
I get why you'd advocate for that but you wouldn't be right unless we tanked our playoff chances, which we didn't.Yeah, he is going to have to play one of the B2B games. It isn't revisionist. The season is not done yet, and we are risking injury. Monty goes down, we are done. He has played 52 games. Compare that to Vasilevsky with 55, Hellebuyck with 54 and Shesterkin with 53. Monty isn't that guy. We were doing well when Dobes has more of the load. This could all turn out fine, but it is quite reckless, don't you think?I get why you'd advocate for that but you wouldn't be right unless we tanked our playoff chances, which we didn't.
Remains to be seen IMO. Monty also got a break during 4 Nations while getting to practice against top talent. I agree Monty could wear down but this year has context that makes me understand why they're riding him. And his numbers have been good. I would also like Dobes playing more, but so far MSL has made good calls as evidenced by our record post 4 NationsThe season is not done yet, and we are risking injury. Monty goes down, we are done. Wow they have 0 confidence in Dobes?
I hope it all works out. Five straight games with no Dobes is just super weird. It's not like he has been bad. Not as good as before, but still providing solid backup goaltending.Remains to be seen IMO. Monty also got a break during 4 Nations while getting to practice against top talent. Mark my words they will remove Xhekaj, St-Louis has no love for him. Struble has been playing well. The odd man out if was picking is Savard he's old, tired and replaceable.Struble comes out?
Guhle Hutson (weak side)
Matheson Carrier
WiFi Savard
My guess is Savard stays because of his prowess on the PK.
We've had three consecutive Montembeault games with BAD goals let's go for four.I hope it all works out. Five straight games with no Dobes is just super weird. It's not like he has been bad. Not as good as before, but still providing solid backup goaltending.
It's not weird at all... Down the stretch, teams with a #1 tend to lean heavier on them. Just about every team battling for a playoff spot is playing their #1 goalie just as heavily.I hope it all works out. Five straight games with no Dobes is just super weird. It's not like he has been bad. Not as good as before, but still providing solid backup goaltending.
