You're not a Habs fan if you're trading Evans.

The scuttlebutt's that he's looking for 4.5AAV for 4yrs+. If I can get a 1st for him he's out the door.

Full salary ? Future consideration.

At 50% ? I would rather keep him, instead of that, he's fine on the bottom-6.

Anderson's been pretty solid for us this year. I'm not retaining on him especially since he's still under contract for another 2-3yrs. Anywho unless some GM goes wonky and offers us a 1st for him I'm okay with keeping him just like with Gallagher.

Huston's gonna get, what, $9-10M x8 year in a few years?

Hutson's available for a contract extension in July. I'm thinking we grab him quick for like 8yrs at 7.5AAV.

40-50 points players are not going to get only 4 millions in a 100M Cap world.

100M Cap might be in a decade. If CDN goes <60 cents the Cap may stay at 92.5 for a while.

You really think a team would be dumb enough to give him more? doubt it.

I do. I could easily see a 4AAV for 4yrs. I'm sure more than 1 GM out there sees him like a solid 3rd line C especially if he finishes the season with 20 goals and close to 50pts.

I highly doubt it. Contract will run until 2033, and it will be his prime and peak years..... Hutson and his agent know what his worth is, and will probably sign after another year of proving himself. I say it will be close to $9.5M x8 .

The cap will still go up about $4M/season even with a weak CDN dollar. Revenue still goes up no matter what.

if hes close to 50P, yeah hed get $4Mx4, but as a UFA hes probably going to want more security than just 4 years.

No, Those prospects aren't great. Evans on pace for 22 goals and excellent penalty kill and defense player. On cheap contract. He has high value
youre out of your mind.... holy homer post. Hes 100% not fetching a blue chip prospect as a bottom 6 player. (no, the Habs wont be so lucky to pull off McLeod/Savoie trade. That was a one-off)

The guy has never even had a 30P season....

How convenient that Jake Evans got off his sorry ass on his 28th birthday and tripled his career goals-per-game rate right before hitting unrestricted free agency.

You can also trade Evans in 2-3 years if you need the money then.

He's at peak value now. In 3 years he'll be on a fat, Dvorak-like contract and float around.

We just value Evans more than a marginal prospect. We full of second tier prospects. If not top 4 D projection or top 6 forward prospect we rather keep Evans. He's 20 goals, good penalty kill and defensively.

3.5 x 4 is the max I would offer him. If he turns it down...trade him for a late 1st. If no one pays that. Let him test free agency with the same 3.5 x 4 on the table. If a team's beats that, then look at the loss as added cap space and room for Beck.

Zero pressure managing the Evans situation.

He’s far from proving that he’s a consistent 20 goal scorer. He’s never even has a 30P season let alone 20 goals!!

Right now he’s overachieving in the first half of his contract year with a 29 S%, not sustainable at all. He could very well be another Armia or Gallagher just cashing in in his contract year. Habs can’t afford another long term bad contract if they’re going to be contenders down the road.

If he’s looking for $4M x 6 as a UFA I’d trade him asap while he’s hot

Dunno, if Hutson is motivated he'll bite. He's a special player, person. I'll always remember when someone recently asked him what type of music he listens to. Lane answered he doesn't really listen to music. The kid just plays hockey. I think he wants his bills paid but he's not overly greedy.

And then try to unload his contract. Won't be anywhere as easy.

Sorry but Gallagher gave us many good years however the length(especially) and the amount were way too much.

well thats just wishful thinking

thats my point... he got a big contract after his best years. MB shouldve let him walk, but obviously wanted to do him a favour. You dont pay someone for what they did, you pay them for what theyre going to do.

I dont see Evans getting better into his 30s, as this season is probably his peak. If he was that good he wouldve been able to show signs of it in his early to mid 20s. They need to keep that money for all the these expensive RFA contracts coming up, and eventually will need some for a big name UFA when they are actual contenders.

Any team has Evans as 4th line center is lucky.

How do you know he is over achieving? How do would we know that this is just his career arc?

Because no one keeps up the shooting percentage he’s rocking right now lol

He’s still a great two way player but if he wants to get paid off one year of unsustainable offense then the smart play is to let him go

The thing is, last season and 3 seasons ago, he had near 30 points season. For a guy that is pretty strong defensively, those guys don’t go for under 3M$/per at the start of their UFA years.

No.

All Evans has done in his pro career is work hard to improve.

Below average skating? Not any more, he's turned into a minor plus at worst
7th round draft pick shot? Lol not any more.
Hockey IQ? Actually this is where he's always been good and it's getting better still with experience.

My worry with a long term extension for Evans isn't his attitude, it's his aggregated concussion wear-and-tear. If he stays healthy, he's going to be a lock on our bottom 6 for another 4 or 5 years with Beck graduating soon enough as our other bottom 6 centre.

Why quibble about $.5 mil and a year or maybe two for that?

Habs take Skinner off Oilers hands give them Savard for a first? Skinner depth for Laval.
You’re out of your mind haha.

Edmonton wouldn’t give a first for Savard at 100% retention. He’s not even a top 4 defenceman on the Habs anymore. We need another guy that can skate and make a pass, not a busted 35 year old that can’t do anything well.
