Post-Game Talk: Habs lose to the Wild. Uneventful at best.

Didn't watch this one. The whole Guhle thing threw me off & I didn't want to watch Matheson-Carrier be the "top" pairing for Montreal.

Carrier is good, but he's not that good. He's a good #4 and would make the team great as a #5. As a #2? Well, we saw that in Nashville. It didn't work so well.

What a bummer losing Guhle is. Damn.

Anyways, this is still a rebuilding team. During our charge it wasn't the veterans carrying us over the top.

It was Hutson going PPG. Guhle shutting down top guys. Suzuki line dominating. Dach coming alive and looking good. Heineman hitting, scoring & giving our 4th line energy and the team depth.

If anything, it's the veterans dragging the team down. Dvorak & Gallagher provide f*** all. I can't wait till Dvo is off this f***ing team.

Evans & Armia are decent 4th line/pkers, but that's it. No over pay.

Tonight, NYI's will beat Philadelphia and jump 3 teams, including Montreal, into 11th place. We're dropping one more spot.

Standings haven't caught up yet, but we're done.
I don't think we're done but Guhle is a huge, huge loss. The D finally looked pretty settled and he was obviously a big part of that. In the future we'll be able to absorb this kind of loss, but right now we're still really thin. This is where a guy like Reinbacher would be awesome. But we don't have that right now.

A few years from now, different story. But for now...

No Kaprisov, no problem. How can Habs always lose against a flavourless team like the Wild ?

Just get rid of bad players, one by one. Make room for better players next summer or try to make a trade for a good player. Coaching staff is ok, not the best but ok.
Coaching staff is weak.

If we hit ten the tank train thread needs to be opened,

The honeymoon is over, back to reality now.
For Habs, it's so hard to win 4 in a row (I think it's not done yet this season), but so easy to lose 4 in a row).

What a pity that we can't take advantage of the home games.

If the coaching staff was really better, they would had not allowed this total collapse in the last 4 games. But they don’t have any strong system to rely on.
4 games is the limit of what I would “accept” as a losing streak.

It seems they’re out of juice and the roster is already underpowered (ie players over-played relative to their abilities).

I can’t blame the coaching staff for a regression to the mean. Hutson’s a rookie and he’s doing great, he’s physically and mentally taxed right now. We can’t ask for much more. (And we can’t ask for anything from Slafkovsky, apparently)

I hope we have some clarity heading to the TDL and sell as much as possible. I also hope the taste of winning proves to the fans and management that we need to become winners soon. It’s so much more fun than whatever this last seven eight years has been.

Nothing is that simple but we have a bad roster, period. Who is very good except 6 to 10 good players?
Improving the roster is simple but not easy. But if Hughes wanted an easy job he wouldn’t have taken this one. It’s his responsibility to keep improving the roster — you’re 100% correct (though, it should be obvious).

They are playing the same defensive system they played during the winning streak. They are probably wearing down due to the shit schedule & lack of roster depth and making mistakes.

How do I board the tank train??

You said out with bad and in with the good, an utterly worthless statement seeing as how some players look great one week and terrible the next. Some players just need to be put in a position to succeed. Also who the hell is going to give anything of value for these "bad" players you want to move? Make room for better players? What if those better players suck too? There is many things to do before we just wholesale start dumping players.

HF and your average bipolar girlfriend, there's really no difference. Highs are way too high, lows are way too low. 31 games left, just enjoy the progress and stop being so damn pessimistic. Playoffs or not, doesn't matter, it's February Saturday and we're not eliminated yet, that's enough for me. I'll whine and cry when we're Buffalo.
