I'm not against moving anyone. Though if we see that Laine is not 100%, others will too. So his value would probably be next to nothing. Personally I'd give him the rest of the year.
laine 100 pct hurt , his stride slowed down dramatically last few games. I willing to bet he also need surgery. I will not go to low on him.

One thing makes me happy is we have a solid management. When we had our streak, they did not go too high and i am confident they wont go too low now.
Just stay the course.

I agree I don't think he's 100% right now. I just hope that if he's that seriously hurt. He would shut it down now.

Nicely said! Our management team didn't change their actions, when the team was playing bad, or during our great winning streak. I think we'll see more vital changes next year.

I'm not sure we can fall to the bottom 4 at this point. There are a lot of garbage teams, especially in the west. But it might be time to bring back a tank thread.

Ugly game. We still don't seem to have a functioning 2nd line. Laine isn't a very strong 5 on 5 player, and Dach and Newhook just still trying to find their game to various degrees.

Not as good as the hot streak, not as bad as the current slump.

Side note though but Craig Button was unbearable to listen to tonight. I normally don't have a strong opinion on commentators either way but someone has to tell him the analyst/colour commentator is supposed to speak less than the play by play announcer. Mudryk, hardly responded once to Buttons one way pontification all night. I laughed my ass off when Button responded to Mudryk by saying, "I couldn't have said it better myself, Bryan," before going on to repeat what Mudryk had said in a slightly different way.

Don't know why the coach doesn't just try to switch things up. 2nd line hasn't been working, maybe you can try to see if Laine finds some random Finnish chemistry with Armia or something.

Simon Snake Boivert said one of the best player in the next draft is Caleb Desnoyer. He says Desnoyer could become very fast the first center of the CH, ahead of Suzuki. He's projected to be picked 5h overall. Do you think he's that good and do you think Habs have what it takes in a trade to get the #5 pick? Or do you think Habs can drop enough to pick #5 anyway?

Or you think Simon Snake Boivert is in the potato fields (dans les patates, lol)?
Desnoyer is a riser and I think he ends up in top 5 if not then 6 or 7 latest.
No I don't think we end up in top 5, more likely 8-12.
We can speculate about trading up but the reality is you almost never see it as it costs too much.

I don't think another team would be interested unless we retain most of his salary. Caufield is our best scorer and is always trying to generate something out there, Laine wouldn't have that impact and if anything would cause Suzuki to alter his game. I don't think that Slaf is even a good complement to that line. The player I would try with them is Heineman, his speed, size, shot and physical game would be a better option than either. I don't think they will do it but they should be open to experimenting with the players on this team.
Yessir.

When things aren’t working, you try new things. Heineman w/ Suzuki and Caufield…very interesting.

Drama queens out in full force again with their panic "trade everyone!" Nonsense as usual. Some people just aren't cut out for the rebuild, they want to be a middling team that never achieved anything.
How many rebuilds start with a Suzuki a CC a Guhle, a Romanov in their ranks ? Some people here are talking as is the Habs were starting from scratch like CHI or SJS. This team is bad but not because it is too young. Suzuki is D+8, CC Dach Newhook D+6, Laine D+9, Slaf D+3 (you d expect more from a Guy who signes for 8m), Dvorak, Gallagher Anderson Evans Armia are all bottom 6 veterans, what is the excuse ?

Laine is clearly both hurt and hitting the wall due to his years long lack of fitness. Add in his contract and then guess why he was available for negative value…

The point is the upside not the current player. The knee injury he took in October set things back too.

We don’t need to make any decision or conclusion about Laine until next season anyway. So, my point is Habs fans shouldn’t overthink his renewal right now.

The more pertinent question is Kirby Dach — he’s also up for renewal in 2026, like Laine, and he’s proven a lot less than Laine, cost a hell of a lot more to acquire, and is not getting out of his funk.

Slafkovsky not producing and not contributing… Newhook basically worse than Drouin…

Call me negative but out top6 looks half empty even with Demidov

Are you seriously listing those players and wondering why the rebuild isn't done? Suzuki is in his prime and very good, Caufield exceptional. Guhle doesn't even have 200 games under his belt. Slaf is 20 and has underachieved. Laine has serious issues and set backs, Dach and newhook have not cemented their place in this league and some vets that are to be honest very average players. How about our rookie goalie or the goalie we got off waivers? These aren't excuses, this is reality. The team isn't good and it certainly isn't consistent. Our best players are tiny too. Don't act like we have McDavid to build around here.

This discussion has come up a few times and even if the Habs had McDavid you’d say the same thing because, fundamentally, you’re both saying the same thing.

One says the Habs don’t nearly have enough pieces to be a contender and the other says the Habs have some pieces and are not completely barren.

You both agree that the Habs have some pieces (mostly inherited but more still coming along) and are not contenders.

Additional thought: Lane Hutson and Patrick Laine have both hit a wall. This is expected + good, imo.

Lane is so good he’s having his sophomore slump midway in his rookie season. Other teams are game planning for him, he’s being targeted. Once his adult stamina comes, he will be our Erik Karlsson.

Laine is very out of game shape now and still a threat on the PP. He’s proven to produce due to his superior skills. Let’s hope his rest of game catches up. If not, then no matter — adios in 2026.
