Laine, I don’t care much about. He evidently doesn’t love playing hockey (said so himself). He’s irrelevant and has to go.
People complain about Dvorak a lot but, today, he cared. He just doesn’t have the abilities.
Gally is done. We know that. Ça fait pitié, c’est triste. But man, he still fights.

Now, compare with Dach.
Dach? Lots of talent. Size, reach. But man, he’s a guy that can’t stay past this season. Sorry mates. His cross check penalty where he ended up laughing about to Savard (who looked dumbfounded by his attitude), sa ‘désinvolture’. Enough. That is a loser to me. He’s going to rub the wrong way on our lads. The ones that are important. Funny enough, his attitude reminds me of Mailloux. No maturity. No self awareness.
So you are saying we can trade Dach to a US based club and not worry about the 25% tariff right? :sarcasm:

I think you are right there are a couple of other younger jokers who need to know when it's a good idea to be serious.

We went up 2-0, and I thought..okay, they're going to battle coming down the stretch and make a run for a playoff spot. nope. something is wrong in the dressing room. zero doubt in my mind. this team is better but it's an absolute mess. 0-4-1 in the last 5. ugly. In the next week we play two back to back games.

@ Kings

1-2-1 is likely, 1-3 would be bad, 2-2 would be positive 3-1 and I have a little hopium.

I honestly can't stand MSL. Terrible coach, terrible lines that make 0 sense, puts Newhook and Dach out with Laine, who's only effective when there's a speedy distributor (you know, like Evans). Would rather have useless Struble than a potential game changer like Mailloux, I just don't get it. Zero structure, run and gun with no pressure offense. I honestly hope he decides to quit

Dach needs to be moved ASAP. Newhook needs to go, trade Dvo at a high and trade Savard. This team will be bottom 8 by years end guaranteed

I love MSL but he just hasn't made adjustments in the line up. Guys are getting minutes they don't deserve and there is zero accountability from bad, lazy hockey. The top 6 is a mess. they're almost never ready to play.

HIs 200 foot game has been completely shit. There was a play where he was near our bench and the puck was going towards the corner. He just stands there like a statue ,Anaheim’s player blows by him and retrieves the puck and causes havoc, about fu$king time Marty benched him.
Like I mentioned, I agreed with the benching. I'm just not a fan of benching a player for the rest of the game. Let them miss out on a few shifts. To think about what they did. Especially in a one goal game, where we need all the offense we can get.

At this point Laine is /was a 1 trick pony with the famous PK one timer. The guy is WAY too slow and defense is a bad word for him. They should have him up for trade
I'm not against moving anyone. Though if we see that Laine is not 100%, others will too. So his value would probably be next to nothing. Personally I'd give him the rest of the year.

Still think he’s way too much of a defensive liability ,who knows maybe he’ll be pissed off enough the next game to show some more aggressiveness, but I don’t think he can fix his overall skating this year.

Guhle is hurt and we already knew that down one D the team could not compete. This is good. The team got to compete, they showed they could beat good teams, and they’ll still get a good pick. Nothing has changed, the team never had the depth to sustain a key injury or two.

Demidov is coming in, deadwood is going out, they need at least one more top 4 D, and they are likely to get at least one interesting piece out of their picks this year.

No arguments here. I'm hoping the same, that he won't sulk after being benched tonight. As for his skating. I know from personal experience. After suffering a serious knee injury. Even after it was deemed healed. It took me awhile before I was confident in going full out. I'm hoping this is the case with Laine. Since I don't remember his skating being this bad.

Simon Snake Boivert said one of the best player in the next draft is Caleb Desnoyer. He says Desnoyer could become very fast the first center of the CH, ahead of Suzuki. He's projected to be picked 5h overall. Do you think he's that good and do you think Habs have what it takes in a trade to get the #5 pick? Or do you think Habs can drop enough to pick #5 anyway?

Or you think Simon Snake Boivert is in the potato fields (dans les patates, lol)?

He also had Trevor connelly ahead of Demidov lol

There's no one projected to be better than Nick Suzuki in this draft. It's why a dman is the consensus first overall.

So... and I am not saying they shouldn't... if combination of Dvorak, Savard, Evans, Gallagher, Adnerson, Matheson etc is gone... who are they getting replaced with? I get that we all want to see some of the AHL guys make the team, but they will not make this team better... not for another 3-4 years... So unless Hughes gets off his hands and start getting Habs some serious competitive veteran leadership, this mean Habs we looking to be bottom 5 for another 3-4 years. By then... Suzuki is 29... Sigh. This is so depressing. As far as I am concerned, the plan, whatever it is, is not working.

We signed Montembault to be a stopgap until we either develop one of our younger goalies or find someone else. He was never suppose to stay number 1 on a playoff team. I’m happy with what he gives us most nights. Our team just isn’t very good. At $3 million with where the cap is going, he’d be good even as a backup.
I get what you’re saying, but it’s too bad to see a guy like him lose an opportunity to be a starting goalie. Not everyone can do it, but you want the success stories.

He doesn't look very interested out there especially when required to forecheck or fight for loose pucks. He has one of the best shots in the league but rarely gets to use it at even strength.

He is on a line with two other wingers, Dach and Newhook aren't centers and all three are terrible without the puck. We are stuck with him till his deal ends. His contract is just one of the issues prohibiting teams from wanting him.

I was trying to figure out from watching him lately if it's a lack of interest. Or simply frustration, in not being able to do what he's previously done. I'm hoping it's not a lack of interest. I honestly don't think he pairs well with Dach or Newhook. The only answer I can see is flipping him with Caufield. I think Suzuki and Slafkovsky would do him good. Though I'd hate to see Caufield taken off that line.

We knew it was a risk when we traded for him. (I'd still 100% do the trade). So I don't think there's any harm in waiting for him to try to find his game. I just don't think trading him right now is the answer.

That's different, it's because he's his son, lol. But seriously true, Boivert says a lot of boulechite.
May he be right for this one?
I won’t qualify it ’BS’’. He’s just not afraid to put his opinion out there.

About Desnoyers, I’m surprised he likes him that much.

I don't think another team would be interested unless we retain most of his salary. Caufield is our best scorer and is always trying to generate something out there, Laine wouldn't have that impact and if anything would cause Suzuki to alter his game. I don't think that Slaf is even a good complement to that line. The player I would try with them is Heineman, his speed, size, shot and physical game would be a better option than either. I don't think they will do it but they should be open to experimenting with the players on this team.

Agreed, at the moment. Laine's value I'd say is even lower or at best equal to when we obtained him. So putting him on the trade block IMO is the last thing we should consider.

I don't like the idea of moving Caufield away from Suzuki. But....Suzuki is the only true Center we have on the team. I suggested keeping Slaf on the line. Due to the fact that he is still a "pass first" player. As much as we all spend time screaming at our TV's for him to shoot more. I like your suggestion of Heineman. Though I didn't mention him, since I have no idea when he's due back.

Due too injuries and our current losing streak. I 100% agree that MSL should be open to experimenting right now.

It was nice, optimist run, but habs are still a young and fragile team and losing a shutdown piece like Guhle is a gut punch. We lack depth.
As some have mentioned, things went south with that collapse against the leafs on a Saturday night on home ice.
The first line getting keyed on (as usual) but the second line has three dudes with various inconsistencies including a water bug who should be in the bottom 6 and a C who might very well be a winger.
Dvorak/Gally and anderson are inconsistent with various degrees of indifference, injury or age, and the 4th line which was playing like a 2nd line for that glorious stretch, lost it's young, physical goal-scoring winger.
We're still not there depth wise.
But I look forward to guys like Tuch, Beck and Florian playing bruising, physical hockey - and finally giving our bottom 6 an identity.
I also look forward to Demidov next season, but HuGo may want to consider packaging some pieces and finding a young 2C somehow

Pezz ran him over the bastard. I think he would open up some room for Caufield with his ability to retrieve pucks and play a physical game. He is fast and has one of the best shots on the team. MSL needs to see if he's more than a bottom-six forward.

Slaf needs to find some consistency, it's okay for now but won't be as kindly tolerated when he's earning 7 million a season. I get frustrated watching him but I realize he needs time.

I'm surprised our "pitch fork brigade" haven't hunted Pezz down yet. ;)

Agreed, before his injury. I was hoping that Heineman was going to start getting more opportunities. Though I understood why MSL didn't promote him, due to the fact he was playing so well on our 4th line. When he comes back, if he can stay healthy. I'd love to see him play some with Suzuki and Caufield.

After how well Slaf played during the 2nd half of last season. I was honestly expecting so much more from him. In saying that, I have to remind myself that he's still a youngin. Plus the fact that it normally takes larger players a little longer to settle into their games. I still believe the consistency will come. Though it may take a little longer than we'd hope. Haha yes, once his new contract kicks in. He definitely won't get the same treatment, he does now on the Habs board.
