Slafkovsky was a beast tonight. Damn, he was awesome at both ends.

Suzuki got stronger as the game went on. They were checking him tight. Caufield is the weak link on that line right now. If Montreal could get another top line two-way player to go along with Suzuki & Slafkovsky that line is a two-way force.

Caufield would drop back to play with Dach.
Agreed, Caufield dropping to 2nd line with Dach will do wonders for him
But it's all about absolutely nailing whoever we find for completing both duo's, or we won't 'make it'

Solid, entertaining game but f*** man I'm getting tired of these one goal losses. Literally each of the last four Habs games I've watched they've lost ALL of them by one goal.

Frustrating to always lose by a goal to the leafs after outplaying them. That's been happening a lot but when you see that our top line was excellent again without much help it gives the impression things are improving.

Sucks to not have that slash get called but at least we lost in reg for the tank. We should have buried multiple chances so we made our own bed. Leafs are not in good shape for the post season though if they can barely handle us lmao

We need an elite sniper. Nobody on our team wants to shoot with the game on the line.
Yup..................CC and Suzuki are the two guys who have elite shots, but neither took one.............weird how they just went back and forth passing to each other...............anyhow, pretty solid effort.

Thought Monty made a gaffe on that last goal. Bad rebound control right to JT.

Here's another example of why this Leafs team will never win anything.

In a regular season game, with 2 pts on the line, they chose to put Matthews out to close the game in the hopes that he'd get an artificially inflating ENG.

They did the same thing last year with Marner's point streak.

They are focused on all these regular season, mickey mouse things rather than building a culture to win.

Wow, does MSL every like Matheson.

Many posters complaining about Matheson during the game. MSL says Matheson was everywhere on the ice, and he was the best player on the ice in the game. Says he must have been a star. A reporter noted he wasn't one of the 3 starts. MSL said well, I thought he was the best player on the ice. Says there's a process, you're never too old to keep evolving and his (MSL's) style of play meshes well with his game. Says Matheson is still getting better.

Ever since Guhle started playing well again, Matheson has been quite good himself. He's still going to make those WTF turnovers once in a while, but not in the same volume as earlier this season (every shift).

Also, in the last few games, the team has been showing some nice Ozone motion and puck management, which is something I was waiting to see this season.

Matthews has got some really solid defensive numbers this season on top of being a goal scoring machine. I think they're trying to grow his game.

I'm really liking a dcore of:

Matheson - Guhle
Xhekaj - Savard
Struble - Harris/Kovacevic

Barron will have his work cut out for him to crack the top 7. But I think Hughes will have to move at least one dman before or by the end of training camp.

Barron is in trouble. Mailloux is already better than him and Reinbacher is coming.

In 2025-2026, Savard will not be here. So it could be Reinbacher - Mailloux - Barron or Kovacevic on the right side. But since the left side is so stacked, maybe Guhle stays on the left to make room for all the lefties (Matheson, Xhekaj, Hutson, Struble, Engstrom, Harris).

I don't know what Hughes is going to do. He'll probably balance keeping the cream of the crop with using our assets on LD to get good young forwards.

Tank You Leafs!

Seriously though, I predict a quick exit from the playoffs for these weak pusses.
I suggest a quick visit to the Leafs' board, where the uneasiness of their fan base can be sensed after having watched their darlings being outplayed for large portions of the game by the talent challenged Canadiens. I think they have quickly realized that Edmundson may not have been the trade deadline answer to their leaky defence.

It's not surprising that the Bruins manhandled them earlier this week.

Toronto is forced to do band aid fixes in hopes that the big 4 contracts can get it done. In all of my years of following hockey I have never seen such a poorly built team.

Good game by our boys tonight, with a healthy roster we beat the leafs. No disrespect, they have some elite forwards but wow, that defence can be beat with dump and chase. They couldn’t carry the puck with a bucket. Florida’s game is forechecking so, they’ll eat them up & the B’s also have some ground & pound, it doesn’t look good for the buds. Come on Arizona & the Sens….put together a little winning streak for us, lol.
Cheers.

But it's all about absolutely nailing whoever we find for completing both duo's, or we won't 'make it'
CC woud benefit having a beast of a center like Dach when he really was hitting his stride. He needs the extra space created by a strong center and although i love Suzy and how he can navigate top defenses, he still is lacking size/reach to create that space.

Indeed, Slaf was really really solid all game. It started on first shift. That zone entry pass too CC on the Matheson's goal was a prime example of how good and effective he can be. Without his long stick and sharp smart pass, there is no goal.

I'm eager to see that move that makes all fall into place. That top line winger we're missing will make a hell of a difference in due time.

X Suzy Slaf
Roy Dach Cc
Newhook Evans Gally (sigh)
Pez/Rhp FlorianX/Beck/Temp? Armia/Heineman

Traded: Anderson/Armia/Ylo/Dvorak

I cant believe that with the amount of 1st and 2nd and other potables we have, we would'nt find a top line guy about to bloom

Who have absolutely no idea who would play the more than 26 minutes a game that Matheson now plays, if they get their wish and Matheson is traded.

Don't worry, its not going to happen. If the fool Bergevin wouldn't trade him.
Peoples crying over Matheson will cry blood with Hutson which is that kind of extra dynamic risk taking def like Karlson (not saying he's as good as prime Karlson but K was not known for defensive prowess). This is the kind of player you match with a prime Ghule and it works (as we're seeing lately), kinda Subban-Markov. Take the occasional pain, get the gain ;)
