Post-Game Talk: Habs lose to the Leafs. Fail to clinch.

Okay but Struble and X are young. I’m not sure how effective either would be on the right side.

As I said, I’d sit Savard. But I understand why he’s not going that route.

If we win tomorrow, I'd be shocked if X doesn't draw in vs the Canes... And if he does, hopefully he plays well enough to make it a tough call on who starts the playoffs.

If we get in on the last day, he probably has to wait till we lose 2 games on the POs to draw in unless injuries happen or Strubble really drops the ball.

Savard's limitations are obvious to all, but to his credit, he plays pretty well within them.

He would already be down there then, no? Honestly not sure wth the coaching staff is doing tbh.
We don’t have insight into what his situation is. If he’s injured they may want him with the big club. No way for us to know what’s happening there.

Back to talking about the future... Your skepticism seems unwarranted based on his progress thus far + age.

It seems silly in a thread about a game where he looked as dangerous and impactful as anyone in either top 6, despite the mix of top 6 fwds being an elite group of performers in their primes
It was merely a response to your post about everyone on the roster being better
Not all takes are equal.

I look forward to cheers-ing with you as we celebrate his HOF induction in a few decades from now, in person, my treat
Most hall of fame careers are 10-20 years in length. You might have to raise a glass in my memory and just proclaim, "I was right and you're dead Old Craig".

Sure. But complaining about unrealistic expectations not being met is kinda silly imo.
Again, this discussion didn't start out with any unrealistic expectations from me. I just want to see him moving his feet and using his size to his advantage on a more consistent basis. If things work out, I see him as a 60ish point player who may find his way to 80. He was projected to be a second-line player if I recall correctly and so far, save for a few glimpses, that seems accurate.

And the Laffs blocked 18 shots...

I hate the Laffs as much as anyone, but can't deny that they have collectively bought in to Berube's approach and are playing with much more grit and determination than past years. If they get solid goaltending this might finally be the year they go on a deep run.

I hope we cross paths with them, would be all the more sweeter eliminating them after they got some playoff hope going lol
It’s no slight to the leafs. With their star talent up front, playing a tight defensive game, turning it into 50/50 low event game, they are gonna win a lot more then lose.

While it's likely, Toronto hasn't clinched the Division yet. They're 3 points from doing so.

Ottawa has clinched WC1. Florida can't finish higher than #2 spot.

TB can still finish anywhere from 1-3.
Tampa can only get 4 more pts, which would tie Toronto, and their RW could win if Toronto can't get an OT pt. I had read that is was ROW, not RW.

Still I would think Ottawa will be a tough win for anybody.

Added note: Well, it's certain now ... Leafs vs Senators.
