Post-Game Talk: Habs lose to the Leafs. Fail to clinch.

Not for people that watched the game.
Despite the recent winning streak, I was glued to this game hardest than any of the previous 7, it was playoff like and had many underdog components that the Habs will be facing if they make the playoffs.

Of course I’d love more shots and offensive opportunities, but they held their own in a game of inches angainst a team who’s only goal is the Stanley Cup, after playing the night before.

I want to see more from Slaf, this is year 3 and he is allowing lazy habits to remain in his game. I thought he was a guy who elevated his game when things mattered.

He is still young, and there is plenty of time, but from my perspective, he is a top-six player—just not top-line material unless he gets some high-octane fuel in his system.

Demidov will play with Suzuki, maybe not right away, but he will be there because NS is a notch above his current linemates, including Caufield. The addition of a second line center will allow MSL to have players in better roles that suit their skillsets.
I think so. I'm one of the few who doesn't worry about defense in that situation. We've seen Kirby Dach and Slaf learn to play that wing and Demidov is coming in with better base defending IMO.

We hopefully get Heineman back next game, and add Demidov. Then you take out Armia, Savard (Rest) and Pezzetta (Both Demi and Heine are better obviously). I'm sure we can clinch, bring Armia back for the playoffs. Xhekaj can come in to give Savard rest and give him some minutes before the playoffs. Kapanen could also swap with Newhook.

Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky
Laine-Newhook-Demidov
Anderson-Dvorak-Gallagher
Heineman-Evans-Kapanen

Guhle-Matheson
Hutson-Struble
Xhekaj-Carrier

Monty
Yeah, keep dreaming. The only change I see, if CBJs win tonight, is possibly Demidov. Possibly.

I’m always taken aback with how some people just say the same thing over and over and over again in the same thread. Life must be hard for their loved ones.
I havent done GDT's in a couple of seasons now I check between periods.
I have no problem with criticism as long as it's constructive and has some reasoning behind it.
Unfortunately you won't get much of that in the heat of the moment.

Unfortunatly you won't get much of that in the heat of the moment.
I flip flop on checking them out, I like hearing (almost) everyone’s takes, but most of the GDT’s are starting to read like Trump posting on Truth Social.

I agree with you on this. He’s shown that he’s capable of high end play, he’s just not consistent. He doesn’t move his feet enough and seems to watch to see what Caufield and Suzuki are going to do. I wonder if he’d do better on another line where he is more responsible for driving the play.

Remember when Habs tried him on another line and that was nicht gut? What Slaf needs is a strong kick in the ass... like sit him out a game (after/if Habs clinch). My only hope right now is that he is a total playoffs player and will transform by the flick of a switch when/if Habs make the playoffs.

Why wouldn’t Heineman play for Pezzetta?
They must not think he's ready. He has lost all his momentum ever since Utah. Now with Armia's injury that line has become a shadow of what it once was 5v5.
We probably would have clinched by now if they were still playing that game. It's not only the production but the playing time in the right end of the rink we miss.

He's shading closer to the boards every game trying to create space. His shot isn't going to work from that steep angle he needs to get back to work from his office which are edges of the circle. It's up to the wingers to draw the defenders towards the middle which requires players moving into that space. The stationary wingers on either side of the net isn't going to get it done. It's a sad set up and the results have become predictable.

So true

I always tought that you should be coaching this team

Why wouldn’t Heineman play for Pezzetta?
Heineman, let us remember, had just returned from an injury that had kept him out for two matches.
He was ready to hit the ice last weekend, but St. Louis opted to insert Michael Pezzetta into the lineup against the Ottawa Senators.
A choice which, it seems, was not very well received by the main person concerned.
According to Marinaro, Heineman was so displeased that he decided to walk to the arena rather than take the team bus, which is a 20-minute ride.

He’s still more useful than Pezzetta.

Good for him.
