Post-Game Talk: Habs lose to the Kraken in OT

  • HFBoards is doing server maintenance Thursday March 13th at 9 AM GMT 5 AM EDT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

This isn’t on Xhekaj, two of those penalties weren’t penalties really, lots of diving all night from Seattle.

Savard also took a bad penalty but it’s not on him either.

MSL was simply out coached in OT. You can’t do the same thing every time and not expect someone to notice.

Guys battled back after an awful period. Seattle kept coming back as well. Seattle knew what the Habs would do in overtime and played it beautifully.
Dan Bylsma is a good experienced coach with a cup ring iirc... It showed when it mattered...

HuGo : If you guys are in da mix come trade deadline we will reward you

HuGo at the trade deadline when the team delivers :

Kind of grotesque bookends really, it started like shit & ended like shit.

Lmao at the OT goal. I'm guessing the Kraken spent the last 3 days scouting Montreal game videos. Classic. They knew Montreal's setup better than the players.

Xhekaj & Savard are unplayable against a team with real speed, which Seattle does have. 2 penalties by Xhekaj and one by Savard late which created the 6 on 4 opportunity. Seattle went 2 for 3 on PP. Brutal.

Struble was one of our best D because he can skate, and plays physical.

Suzuki line led again. Slafkovsky with 2 goals, which was great. There's not much behind them, though.

In any case, a real opportunity lost tonight.

Play like this against Florida Saturday, they'll get destroyed.
Xhekaj & Savard together is really painful, especially when they are facing anyone with speed. Unless they are stud defensively together (which they aren't), they shouldn't be a pairing.

Savard at this point in his career reminds me of Bouillion. He's a good locker room guy but realistically shouldn't be a every game player. He's a player where you bring in when someone needs to sit or there is a favorable style match up.

I see a 7th D next year who's reliable enough to make Reinbacher skip a game here and there.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the team make the playoffs but this isn't a playoff team. We aren't there yet in terms of maturity, roster composition or skill. Games like tonight remind us this because a playoff team should be able to hold a late lead (this was nearly a problem last night too) and a playoff team shouldn't be fully reliant on one line for the offense.

I think this final push will be good experience for the guys and will show what needs to be done in the offseason to get us there. Truly I think adding a legit 2nd line C and Demidov will do wonders for the team. The fact this flawed roster is still in the race often surprises me.

Xhekaj played a very good game. Savard not so much B2B isn't his thing.
I agree. Xhekaj played a good game and was a physical beast in the defensive zone. Savard blocked at least 4 great scoring chances. In open ice he's a liability and was exposed on the play that he drew a penalty which resulted in the tying goal.

Among the forwards, I thought Newhook had a strong game while Caufield was largely invisible.

The team looked tired on the tail end of back to back games on the road. And the way we played in the first period where Seattle hit 4 goal posts, we were lucky to salvage a point.

Two of them were bull f***ing shit and the other one he was stepping up for Dobes.
The game was lost because we have only one forward line. The Dman getting burnt was Matheson and the forward group getting burnt was Newhook Roy and Gallagher.

We lost because we play like shit with the lead. In 24 hours we got scored 4 times in the 3rd period with 3 goal and 2 goal leads.

Savard got beat when he got on his knew and it was an obvious trip. Refs were fine.

Positives:
  • As Rene Bourque would say ...
  • Struble's play lately
  • Slaf late season edition
  • Newhook not looking bad at all
  • Anderson and Gally with the effort
  • Suzuki trying his best

Negatives:
  • Too tired to list them all but our Gill/Spacek 3rd pairing duo is not reliable.
  • I miss Armia
  • Joshua Roy is less visible than his white stick
  • They spent half the game lobbing the pucks in the zone ala Therrien
  • Penalties
  • That freakin OT
  • Laine in 5v5
  • Pezzewho?
