Post-Game Talk: Habs lose to the Devils 4-0

Another tough outing for Monty.............and the boys can't score, so.........................
Our ascent up the standings was crazy, and now this, is also crazy.

Everyone is shaking their heads.

We will add Demidov but I would hope the weight of the world isn't put on his shoulders in year one.

The second line needs an upgrade, especially at center.

We need to replace Savard with a faster skating version.

If someone asks for Matheson in a trade we should do it.

So yes, I agree. This could take 2+ years before it gets consistently better.
With Savard, Mailloux and Xhekaj, half our defence is slow. And you want to trade our most mobile defenceman? I think after this game, you probably won't see Mailloux play another game this year in Montreal unless there is a spate of injuries. The kid just can't skate at an NHL level. Tonight showed it. Graphically.

I said that if someone asks or makes a good offer, then yes, we should entertain it. That wasn't the only thing I said. Anyway, this team needs some upgrades. We can all agree on that.

These fans man lol, that team was supposedly the best thing ever not even a whole month ago and now let's trade everyone lol
Maybe, just maybe...cause we were playing insanely good and thought we had turned a corner....but evidently we were fooled with a simple stretch mixed with teams not elevating their game against us? Still wondering how some people realizing they were wrong makes them bipolar...lollll

No matter how we look at it, this goaltending isn't top end. This defense CLEARLY needs more top end help. And that offense is laughable. This is not a competent top 6. We are still so far. And we will have to remember it next year in November if there is not a lot of changes when we win 5 games in a row.

People should just remember what they say about the Leafs and apply it to us.....Leafs are great in season, bad in playoffs when the game is elevated even more. Well....we were good in December....and started to be bad after when the game elevated...imagine if we would have made the playoffs...lolll

I am convinced that Slaf is playing hurt. No way he has regressed this much.
If so, stop playing him. I will believe he is not 'cause that would be dumb to play him hurt and making him lose his confidence as much. If not, it does mean he is regressing. It might be too late...but I was laugh at for suggesting a trip to Laval....let's hope we are not witnessing a Galchy fiasco, though Slaf has ALL the icetime to make up for it, plays with the best, get the PP and so on.....

So if people come back with it's the development....well the only thing that will be to blame is him not going to Laval first, get his offensive shooting game going and then joining the Habs.

This management is not without fault. You wonder.....when they picked him they said that they were not picking the best player now...but in the future. If so...why not 1 year in Laval....

All great points! They did say early on though that they drafted the player who would at his best 5 years from when they drafted him. We shall see.

Laine never touching close to 8.7M$ a year ever again after that contract.
This looks like a monumental f#%k up by management, gotta stop with the shiny toys with the "buyer beware" tag, hopefully they have a plan this summer because these type of collapses are starting to be our identity

Monumental ? We got a top15 2nd round pick and Laine’s contract expires next year. Not sure what you’re talking about.

Of course some posters here were already penciling him as a 40G scorer on our lineup but that’s not the price we “paid” to get Laine.

It was a no risk, high reward trade. It also had little chance of paying off but we were in a unique position to take a chance on Laine because we had the cap and no real better options. The contract was also short enough to justify it.

Dach, Newhook, Laine. It's ok to experiment, but we have to start adding players WITHOUT question marks.

I'm not mad at all we gave Laine a shot. I stil l hope he can find his pace.

But he is too inconsistent to be considered in the team's long term plan.

He cost us literally nothing and could still bring us back something once he's shipped off at half price. It's only retention for one season.
