Post-Game Talk: Habs lose to the Blues. Fail to come back from another large deficit.

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

What was your prediction for this roster back in September?

This board & most pundits had us bottom 5 with no chance at playoffs.

Coaching has the roster sitting in playoff spot with 12 games to go... so unless you were predicting a top 3 division finish, I guess you are celebrating the job the coaching staff has done, eh?

Theory from a non hockey head shooting shit at the wall: the system MSL has them play makes them punch above their weight but it ask the players to go full throttle all the time. Thus they get out of juice after a while. Hence the rebound post 4 nations break. But the team is over performing. I might be way off on that one.
You're not.

The team has been playing over its' head. I thought we were done when Guhle went down.

Awesome for the team to be playing in meaningful games. Great to be in the mix. And maybe we actually make it in. But honestly, at this point I'm surprised at how hot we've been.

Really weird year. At the start of the year I never believed that we were as bad as we saw. Then we went supersonic and I felt we weren't that good...

I think this was our 2nd regulation loss since Feb 22nd? That's unbelievable.

People prediction was to miss playoffs and sell at TDL to make a era for Demidov coming and acquire players with the tons of picks and prospects we got in the recent years

It'll be interesting to see who starts next game.

Do you go Dobes against the weaker team and save Monty for Carolina? Or do you attempt to secure the win with Monty in against Philly and hope/pray against Carolina with Dobes?

Even if that were true (it's not) I don't give a shit.
It is true whether you give a shit or not, but wtv.

They beat the tar out of us from the very beginning.
We outshot them in the 2nd. That metric you're so hung up on...

People seriously need to stop blaming goalies when the team plays like horseshit.

I blame the goalie when the goalie is shit... I mean, you know this, even when we win I point out his weak goals and his constant guessing.

He's NEVER going to be an all star goalie. He's going to let in soft goals. He's 'good enough' to win if you've got a good club.
Nobody (I hope) thinks this dude is an all-star goalie.

Any goalie in the NHL needs to be "good enough" to win if you've got a good club.

We have another goalie that has better stats across the small sample size of games he's played so far. Shouldn't keep playing a guy who consistently lets in weak goals.

You need your goalie to steal a game for you after you keep stealing games for them by scoring 3-6 goals each game to get points. That's not sustainable.

Maybe Monty needed a mental/ playing time break? It’s not so much what Dobes might have done but what could have been done for Monty’s load management.

Sure that can be up for debate I suppose, but that STL team is for real right now, and it can be argued Marty was just trying to put his best foot forward, For all the flack Monty takes he is undeniably our #1 goalie. He has done more or less everything that can be realistically expected from him.

I like Dobes, but he's still extremely green and we are in a playoff race.

If you think we were the better team tonight and we lost because of goaltending, I don't know what to tell you.

Whenever we lose a game posters just automatically jump on the goalie. It's dumb. St Louis controlled the game from start to finish. Dobes would've fared no better.

Yeah, we all want the playoffs, but regardless if they just fall short, this season has been a tremendous success any way you slice it.

Totally get why MSL played Montie tonight. Every game is must win and Montie's been winning with some good numbers.

But he's not a workhorse and I've been worried about overuse. I think he's using him too much.

That's fair, it's just a damned if you do or damned if you don't proposition in a race where every game matters,

Right... So if you predicted the roster would not be in the playoff mix at the TDL, and we are, then it's pretty silly and incoherent to complain about the job the coaching staff has done with this roster, no?

So knowing full well your goalie was tired...you keep using him......he's destroyed...confidence surely low...and replace him with 10 minutes to go.

That was some pee-wee coaching. Team was flat. So was MSL.

having said that...seeing STL play, they are a candidate to go so far this year again. Same type of STL team that won it all.
The Blues are mediocre or they would have locked up a playoff spot. They don't beat teams that have more than one line .

None of those shots were great, half of the 12 were from center ice or flubs from the side.

People seriously need to stop just looking at the shot count. They count anything that has the puck moving in between the posts, no matter how slow or how far it came from.

And it's not a joke. Team has bailed out his consistent bad-goal allowing self by scoring 3-4-5-6 goals in the previous 6 games.
LOL
Our first shot was Armia from149' so an icing if it doesn't hit the net. :help:
I was looked up at the shot clock and it showed 11-1 I couldn't believe they counted that shot.

I still don't understand why the Bruins canned him so early in the season.
I think it was a last-ditch effort to try and be competitive with that roster. Predictably, it failed.

Whatever the case, I don't think Montgomery is someone Bruins need at this point. He seems like a coach that you hire when your team is pretty much a finished product, in order to squeeze the best possible result out of it.
