Post-Game Talk: Habs lose to Detroit in embarrassing fashion.

With the dog fight going on until the end of the regular season, I would not be surprised if Habs can barely play for a .500 record. Will it be enough or not to get a pass to Playoffs ? At least, if they can keep playing competitive and entertaining hockey, I will be satisfied.

This group is clearly resilient.

Their winning % since end of Nov is like 0.635%. Not substantiable for a young team like this but it has been 26 games so that is a decent sample size.

Since Jan 1st, the Habs are at 0.682% (7-3-1). Exactly 3 goals against per game and 3 goals scored per game. Ironically, their PP is 17.1% and their PK is 78.1%. Not even at the 20/80 split. Their shots/game and shots allowed/game is also the same. 29.3.

The games will get tougher so we are going to learn a lot about this group in the remaining 34 games. Playing the rest of the season at .500% after what they did over the last 26 games would be some really deflating energy. I think 0.550 is more reasonable if we expect some fall back. If we finish the season with a 0.550% for the rest of the 34 games, that gets us to 89 pts. I believe that would just outside of the playoffs. 90-92 is what I would expect for the wild card spots in this tight east.

The other thing I wonder about is injuries. With teams playing harder, there will be more injuries. Does that happen to us or other teams that we are in the mix with? An injury to Suzuki and we can start to talk about tank again

I agree with you. What matters most is learning how to win and being in the mix. It would be cool to make it but it isn't the end of the world but next season we will be one of the better teams in the East.

The point is that being shorthanded on top of the ridiculous schedule will eventually wear the players down.

You mean like some top teams who barely play their 4th line?

My god, everything is going to fall apart now with the Heineman injury. I thought that the injury card was played before? All teams go through it and figure it out?

Let them figure it out. Most of our core that plays high min's are young. Laval success is also important.

What has any of that to do with what I posted. All they have to do is use a player that MSL will give minutes to. Other team with a similar ridiculous schedule will likely have the same problem if they short shift players.

Problem is we aren't getting much of anything from Dvorak or Gallagher anymore either. So it's just a 3 line team and Marty is using the Dvorak line too much.
Gotta say the timing is a bit weird on this statement.

Dvorak and Gallagher have combined for 6 points and a +4 rating in the last 3 games...

If anything he's getting more out of them the past few games.

This is all good, every game counts and hockey is exciting again!

He is still far from his normal level of play when it comes to pace. There is no way to speed up recovery in conditioning, it takes time.
Hopefully ,never really followed him before we acquired him so I don’t know what his speed and tenacity are like. The playmaking and shooting skills are definitely there, but he’s soft on the puck. I do like the contract, barring injury hopefully we get to see him at 100% game shape next year then we can decide what to do with him.
