Post-Game Talk: Habs lose to Detroit in embarrassing fashion.

Sad that Hutson lost his point streak, he was close to setting a new record. He’s quickly becoming our MVP — as a rookie dman this is simply phenomenal.

The future of the Habs will be determined by the players who show up, not by the ones who need every excuse made for their torpor and inconsistency. The best players show up to make an impact and don’t need a golden invitation letter to do so.

Caufield has shown up every game I've watched.

Not one decent 4th liner to bring up from Laval. Not one player from there knocking the door down to join the big club. It's an issue

No it is not an issue. Habs do not have bottom 6 depth issues and we want our AHL team to play meaningful games and build our culture. We need to allow them to develop with big minutes.

We have talked for years to have better development and stop rushing players and now we want them to develop fast at the same time where we have vets playing in our bottom 6. I see no issues here. I see good timing of when those vet contracts expire vs when the 2nd tier prospects will be ready.

Marty needs to take Slaf aside and tell him that he's on PP1 but if there's another situation where he has all the ice in the world in front of the net, while he has the puck, and he doesn't take it there, he's coming off for Dach or Newhook.

He should also start missing shifts when he has possession of the puck and takes the perimeter. He's a big body, he has to take the ice in the middle. When it's there or when he can create it.

The sooner he unlocks that, the sooner he meets his potential. He can't be a perimeter playmaker.

I am not talking about rushing players or their development. We get 1 injury .The guy is out for a month and not one guy young or old can fill in.Pezz is not even an NHL player on most teams,Pick someone up off waivers then.

Anyone know what was up with pulling PP1 off very early from the powerplay? Same thing at the end of the game 6-on-5.

Detroit very clearly took Laine out there. Powerplay needs to figure out something out of it.
We need shots from the right side and Hutson in the middle but there is no use taking them when the goaltenders have a clear view. Unfortunately Kirby Dach is the only forward who has a clue about how to screen a goaltender and he isn't on PP1.

Lately the team was winning without giving its best effort and after starting the game late. This should be a well needed reality check / wake up call.
I think it has more to do with opposing pro scouting has identified weaknesses & tendencies to game plan vs Habs and teams are starting to adjust. They are game planning Hutson much more and his blue line shuffles are becoming less effective.

This is all normal course of action, teams adjust then it’s up to the players / their teams to adjust to the adjustment rinse & repeat…

Lots to be upset about tonight's game, but I think when you play a guy like pezz instead of proper call up the whole team suffers. It's a domino effect of not putting the team in the best position to succeed. We weren't prepared for the wings intensity and once we got anything going we were already down multiple goals.

I know it's nice to see the team be able to stay in games and come back and win, but these poor starts will bite us in the ass
We just don't have the depth yet in our system to keep two teams fed with high quality players.
I think HuGo have to find a stop gap someone who can step in and play solid fourth line minutes.
I'm not sure why we haven't given Evans a stable winger like Anderson to play out the stretch until Heineman returns. Predictability is better for that line than revolving wingers IMO. Trying to exploit a 4th line with the double shifting wingers makes more sense to me.

Problem is we aren't getting much of anything from Dvorak or Gallagher anymore either. So it's just a 3 line team and Marty is using the Dvorak line too much.

This was honestly one of the worst hockey games I've ever watched.

Dach, Evans, Armia, Caufield were probably the only 3 players who showed up.

Have to forget this one and get back to work Saturday

:skeptic:
Who's cosplaying as whom on that list?

People should stop making major jinx threads like "is the rebuild over?" :sarcasm:
The real bad move was closing the tank thread.

Not having ONE player who can come up and help is an issue.

For 4-5 min's a game? Come on man. That is not why we lost last night. We lost because the Wings were desperate and the Habs are not winning every single game.

Winning all the time is boring. A loss here and there is good for the team and its fans. A good old reality check never hurt anyone.

Apparently we loss because we don't have a good replacement for Pezz. If we had Heineman, we would have won for sure

This and the Leafs is a reminder that that NHL is hard and it's not going to always be sunshine.

Hutson not looking as good these last few games is a good test for him. It's unreasonable to expect him torch NHL without any hiccups as a 20 year old rookie.
