Post-Game Talk: Habs lose game 2. Capitals lead series 2-0

B

By “talented” I assume you mean small and/or soft because Washington has no issue with it, or is Ovechkin not talented ?

Playoffs hockey is a different sport, maybe its just not for you

It's really not a different sport. In the regular season it's a coin flip whether or not something will get called. In the playoffs you're more in russian roulette territory (1 in 6) for the rules to be enforced.

Then add the NHL front office pretzel logic where a 1 game suspension in the playoffs is "worth" 2~3 games in the regular season... and that's the result you get.

I wish more coaches would call refs out on their missed calls, especially ones that are clear and cannot be defended.

The POS is enabled by the league and encouraged by our shit PP.
Every eye is on Tom Wilson meanwhile Nick Dowd's game is rampant with dirty play.
Xhekaj and or Anderson are the ones who absolutely have to put a stop to it.
Dowd won't get the same matchups on home ice it's time for him to take some licks.

3 goals in 2 games. Its not like you have a bunch of offensive weapons sitting, so maybe go 11-7, double shift Suzuki.

See if you can get the team playing bigger.

Should be obvious the players I've been saying that need to go/be upgraded upon need to go.
Om expecting last change at home will free up Hutson and stimulate the offense IMO

Stay the course, everything will be fine - Habs are a dominant team at home and I’m expecting a very convincing win in game 3 by Habs

Galley kept saying that Thompson coughed up lots and lots of rebounds. But the Habs coaching staff has done nothing about it. Montreal has scored 3 goals in this series. All 3 have been just a few feet from the goal. Do Hab players place themselves in and around the goal?

Well, Anderson's breakaway answers that question. After shooting the puck, he veers off towards the boards instead of stopping in front of the net. On the powerplay, they have one player near the net and when the puck hits the net and Thompson coughs up a juicy rebound, none of the other forwards make a consistent effort to go to the net.

The problem is that the Caps' defence is ruthless. Those three cross-checks to the mouth in two games show you how ruthless they are. Of course, the officiating doesn't help but you can't depend on the refs during the playoffs. MLS and his staff need to tell the forwards to plant themselves in front of the net and pounce on those rebounds.
You can't follow a puck to the net when your momentum is carrying you away which it was as he tried to avoid the back check.
The only way it happens is if Anderson jinks to the inside before shooting.
I love Josh Anderson but seriously he doesn't have that move in his arsenal.
Maybe Lane Hutson Nick Suzuki or Ivan Demidov might have that instinct but Josh never.

The reffing is eerily reminiscent of the Vegas series. There's clearly been a word put in to hold the whistle on calls against the Caps.

What a victim mentality to whine about the ref not protecting you, just stand up for yourself.
The ultimate irony is that the team cannot even score on the powerplay
Exactly, it's the playoffs. Teams will resort to whatever they can in order to get the upper hand in a series.

Bring in Xhekaj :P

Victim mentality ?

Even when we make legal plays the ref is out there wanting to give us penalties like when Evans knocked some tooth out on a follow through. Ref was 100% ready to hand out a 5 min major 10 min misconduct and throw the whole book at Evans (only slightly exaggerating) but dude had to go watch the replay to not completely screw us over. I am convinced if we start cross checking people to the face we will end up in the box and given fines/suspended. As it should be. Just should be on both sides.

The Habs are right there with the Caps...Thompson has saved their ass big time through 2 games.

I'm still not pressed, I don't buy many of the narratives out there about changing this or changing that. The margins between both teams have simply not been that big. If people think nibbling around the edges of the roster is going to make a difference, fine, but that's not the difference between both teams.

In both games, the Caps have brough the physical element early in the games, but that effectiveness seems to wear off as the game progresses.

The Habs have done a lot of good things this series against a very experienced and well coached team.

This is far from over.

The referees actually did us a favor on that Evans high stick. They called it a major so they could use video review to look at it again. I believe they couldn’t have reversed it had they given it only a minor.

Looking at Caps media/blogs their story is that Thompson won the game for them. They think we’ve been hanging with them. Quoting Randy again: “I didn’t hear no bell!”

Of course, the only thing that matters is the final score, there's no moral victories in the season, nevermind the playoffs.

But i'd agree with the Caps media/blog on their assessment of the series so far.

We play 15 minutes a game, starting in the 3rd period with 15 minutes left. We're not hanging with the Caps in the first 45 minutes.

Why is Habs brass not calling out the league for the egregious refereeing we've been seeing?
They should send a tape to the NHL. Caps should be told enough with the cross-checks to the face. They’ll start handing out 2 minutes now.

Did us a favor calling the wrong thing ? OK maybe.

But he could have just let it slide altogether like he has done with 2 crosschecks to the face of Gallagher and another to Caufield?Instead he was making sure he wasn't missing anything he could call on the habs ?

I remain convinced if we start running around doing Washington Capitals things, we will somehow get called for it. We shall see.
