Post-Game Talk: Habs lose game 2. Capitals lead series 2-0

1. Laine shouldn't be dressed for next game. Dress Kapanen.
2. Scratch either Savard (who cannot keep the pace) or Struble (where's the physicality and toughness??) for Xhekaj. Enough is f***ing enough.
We don't start games for the first 40 minutes, may as well send someone to play mean and hurt the opponent.

This is where my line is drawn with this coaching staff. We've played the same f***ing way in our last 7-8 games, and nothing is changing. Team is a no-show for two periods, players are barely hitting and playing rough. Pathetic.

I don't know how you can justify putting Laine back in the lineup. He can't play 5 on 5 and is bringing nothing to the PP.

Plus you've got the rest of the team out there busting their ass blood/sweat/tears and Laine looks like he doesn't want to break a nail with his puck battle effort.

We were warned over and over by other fans, but I didn't expect it to be this bad.

I’ve been saying this pre playoffs and have had back and forth debates with some people here who think they should be in the lineup because theyre vets and good on special teams.

Montreal could easily be 2-0 up if St-Louis had any balls to do what should have been done a long long time ago.

I said St-Louis ego would get the best of him and here we are. Never been a fan of his and even if he won the Stanley cup with Montreal I wouldn’t be a fan. Hate his arrogance!

Get Laine and Savard out of the lineup it’s not late to come back in this don’t waste Montambeault’s performances !

That’s just Gallagher going a million miles a minute and mis timing the hit.
At full speed it like a reverse hit but in slow motion you can see Gallagher wasn’t in full control going into the hit

lol - love that guy - guys some of that heart to Laine and energy to Savard and Montreal would be in business

Struble is -2 in two games and he looks bad on the eye-test and bottom 4 players in advanced stats sheet both games. But lets continue to scratch Xhekaj in a physical series.

2 Hits in Game 1, and a big fat 0 yesterday. Pathetic, for a player who is strong physically and does not bring any offense. This better be mentioned to him, and explained it's unacceptable.

This guy has to be the dumbest MF to ever wear a Habs uniform I swear to god.
Blessed with elite skating but absolutely nothing between his ears. The furthest thing from a clutch player you could ever have in the NHL.
If I ever see Newhook in the top 6, or at C again even in the bottom 6 next year, I’m not watching.
4th line LW is where he belongs. (Hopefully on another team)

Its great that they made the playoffs. For the younger players the experience is excellent. They have hung in there with the Caps, who I am surprised are kind of ordinary. But over and over again the sheer lack of skill on this team is baffling. Had they taken even 1/2 their chances last night or game 1, they would up 2-0. I think they will come back in Montreal if they can adjust to the speed of the post season. But thats a big IF!

I’d say overall not a bad performance. Their lucky goal broke our back in the second but nice comeback in the third. Evans should have put it in and some nice saves from Thompson were the difference maker. Although overall Monty had a nice game so I think it’s a fair result.

Laine has to be scratched. They need to send him a clear message that this summer, he better get in shape because in the fall he’s playing his future in the NHL. Or at least with the Habs.

If you want to protect the player hide it behind an injury.

Next game: Xhekaj replaces Struble and Kapanen is in for Laine.

If we go 0-3 or if Savard is injured to the point where is going to be the same or worst than yesterday, I would give Reinbacher a chance.

Unless there is a miracle, we wont won a cup this year, but our young and future core will get a thirst for it, experience the frustration, build on it to eventually become champions.

I legitimately don't understand why it's accepted that the rules changed come playoff time. Arguably the rules should matter more this time of year rather than become more laxed. There is a difference between being physical and goonery.

I can't agree more. That's the most frustrating thing to me, every playoffs. And then you have those fans suggesting that we should "let them play", as if enforcing the rules and making sure talented players are not hooked and intefered were stopping the "real game" from happening. Hockey culture has a real problem.

Making the playoffs doesnt make you a “playoff” team and it sure doesn’t mean this team is done (re) building.

I do laugh when people complain about the ref, where were they when Weber, Chariot and Edmundson were cross -checking people in the face?

Guess playoff hockey was so long ago many forgot what its like

Suzuki, Caufield, Hutson, Guhle, Gally, Anderson, Dvorak...are these Barginbin players ?...what about Laine, Newhook, Dach, Savard, Matheson, Carrier....also Barginbin ?

Down 2 need to make a line up change just to get a spark going. I’d honestly sit Laine for Kapanen and ‘rest’ Savard so he can be ready for whatever ends up being his final game. Free Arber, if he can play physical without taking penalties would be a big boost to the players
There wasn't that much in Kapanen's regular season games that suggested to me he'd do anything special in the post season.
I'm fairly certain we have guys in the AHL ahead of him.

By “talented” I assume you mean small and/or soft because Washington has no issue with it, or is Ovechkin not talented ?

Playoffs hockey is a different sport, maybe its just not for you

Galley kept saying that Thompson coughed up lots and lots of rebounds. But the Habs coaching staff has done nothing about it. Montreal has scored 3 goals in this series. All 3 have been just a few feet from the goal. Do Hab players place themselves in and around the goal?

Well, Anderson's breakaway answers that question. After shooting the puck, he veers off towards the boards instead of stopping in front of the net. On the powerplay, they have one player near the net and when the puck hits the net and Thompson coughs up a juicy rebound, none of the other forwards make a consistent effort to go to the net.

The problem is that the Caps' defence is ruthless. Those three cross-checks to the mouth in two games show you how ruthless they are. Of course, the officiating doesn't help but you can't depend on the refs during the playoffs. MLS and his staff need to tell the forwards to plant themselves in front of the net and pounce on those rebounds.
