Post-Game Talk: Habs lose, eliminated from playoffs.

What's even more mind boggling is that he barely invested in skills development and hired staff that put onus 100% on players to seek out resources and develop their game by themselves. Dude was stuck in the game and approach he grew up with. Zero innovation

Furthermore, if HuGo were allowed to rebuild in the first place is because Bergevin was given carte blanche over salary spending and went all out on bad contracts.

Bad contracts + limited incoming developed prospects = a rebuild in the long run.

I wanted to go to more games and it's already over. Guess I didn't need to sell that kidney after all,oh well, road trip.lol

I'm a member at Lost Creek (free membership from work). A little annoying right now because they are upgrading their sprinkler system to be computerized so there are some holes not open. I think starting today, 17/18 holes are open until they finish the sprinkler system upgrade.
Nice! I used to work there in high school. It’s changed so much. Used to be called lost ball because of how narrow the fairways are lol. Have fun!

Didn't watch the game last night because I was working. They accomplished more this season than most even thought was possible.

Hopefully Hughes can get some serious work done this summer.

It is bright if they continue doing the right things.
Dach, Laine and Newhook trades have not delivered the expected results.
The future is bright only IF Hughes delivers everything habs need this summer. Otherwise the future is watching Habs' smaller talented forwards get run over once again and at best a first round exit.

I've been very busy at work which is why I have not been on this site as much lately. Miss some of you guys for sure! Today, I might be going to play some golf. F work! lol
Hope you get your round in. My golf got cancelled today due to rain. However, I cannot complain too much -- I've already got in eleven rounds so far this spring. The advantages of being retired and having a 2nd home in South Carolina. :D

Yeah, the spring's been pretty early this year... had 4 rounds so far but only cause family and work takes up too much of the time. Both are such nuisance.

While I think he needs to get a top 4 RHD, I don't think he does so until Reinbacher is integrated into the team and they can evaluate where he'll be in the future and what specific type of player they need and to pair with who.

They obviously need a 2C and not a project. Hughes needs to swing big there.

As for getting bigger, I don't really see this season as the one where he makes a bunch of acquisitions to surround the core with specific players. Remember, they're a year ahead in their plans and as so, shouldn't wildly deviate. It's also a timing thing with their prospects in Laval (not named Reinbacher). It feels like the ones slated to one day be Habs regulars need another year of full time AHL pro hockey before coming to the big show

I don't understand why this isn't the year to get more sandpaper? One does not exclude the other... get 2C, get RHD, bring Reinbacher and bring at least 3-4 players that play like capitals play. All are doable. Dvorak, Armia, Evans, Kapannen, Laine, Newhook et Co can all GTFO. Keep Anderson. Nobody will take Gallagher, with all due respect. But toughen the team up, FFS!

Is it hard to do all that? Sure.. but I believe Hughes doesn't exactly work for minimal wage. He gets paid more than most people in their lifetime to do hard things. No excuses from management this summer. The rebuild was the easy part... now the real GM'ing begins.

The only one I saw them really banking on (based on what we paid) was Dach, and it turns out that he's a bandaid and probably won't ever reach his potential. That's the big miss on Hughes's record at the moment.

Laine was because we had a huge gaping hole on the 2nd line to begin the year and he was available for really cheap. I wouldn't agree he didn't produce expected results because he absolutely did -- scored a ton on the PP and won us some games in that regard. Recency bias is very real in his case. If he's done here after next season, there's nothing lost.

Newhook cost a late first round and he's being played above where he should right now due to Dach's injury. I wouldn't even venture to call him either a C or a second liner, and right now he's a second line C for our team. Maybe once he slots into a role he's more equipped for, expectations will go down.

I got 2 rounds in and will be 3 after today. Usually play 50-60 rounds a year and last year I got in 70. Difficult with work schedule and it's increased for me with some or our seniors retiring. Fun times.

I got my handicap down from 10 to 6-8 range last year. Trying to get it to 5 this year and so far, all the videos I've been watching all winter on grip and swing paths are working out. I'm able to move the ball left to right and right to left when I want to, which is an advantage on certain holes.

Now all I got to do is to manage my G/F expectations on when I'm home (work and golf will take most of my time). I told her to find more friends and hobbies! haha.

You can do it all this year but you still need to evaluate the team when certain pieces are introduced. For example let's say they get their 2C and top 4 RHD (along with Reinbacher), get into a playoff series and coming out of it, realize they need something else. While I think they are at the end stages of their rebuild (mostly due to it coming off a retool from 2018-2020), I don't think rushing everything is warranted. A few of those roles on the bottom 6 will be taken naturally by players like Florian and Beck. I wouldn't be opposed to swapping Newhook and Dach for a gritty LW to play on that 2nd line. But fasttrackinf the entire process because the fans smelt playoff hockey and are impatient is a recipe for disaster

Sounds like you have your game working pretty well. My handicap hovers between 8 and 9, but as I get older it's getting tougher to keep it in single digits. My days of working the ball left or right consistently are pretty much over, and I concentrate more on keeping the drives in the fairway and a solid short game.

Last year I got in 55 rounds. I usually get out twice per week with a group of retired guys here in Michigan during the season. I end up playing a couple of times per week when we are in South Carolina -- usually as a single where I sometimes play alone, but mostly get paired with others. We just got back to Michigan on Tuesday, so was looking forward to playing with the group today but the weather didn't cooperate. The group is heading to northern Michigan at the end of May for a guys trip, so I'm looking forward to that.

The biggest gain I got last year was showing up an hour early each tee time to chip and put. Take 3 balls and drop it around 10 yards from the practice green. Your chip shot is your birdie attempt and then go finish all 3 puts. Do that over and over from different angles (up hill and down hill type stuff) and you will find that you will come out with more pars and avoid more bogies.

My putting needs improvement. Still missing some 5-10 foot puts for par at times. Most of that is reading greens.
