Post-Game Talk: Habs lose, eliminated from playoffs.

Great season. Tip my cap to everyone on the team. The players exiting or who will exit, made contributions and helped the club shock most of us and make the playoffs.

It’s a wonderful core of youth and talent and they’re only going to get better.

Interesting off-season ahead.

Who is acquired to bolster the right side of the D?
Does Hughes get that 2C? There’s a full draft cupboard, prospects and some cap room, so that sure helps. Gotta believe…!
Who is acquired that has size, some talent and some nastiness?

We only saw preview clips of what the youngsters are going to do. It was a handful minutes of what will be a great movie.

I have off-season work to do: Get my home viewing up to snuff so I can see more games.

Also, we’re planning our first visit to the Bell Centre. Way overdue, but that will be fantastic.

As always, thanks to you folks for pre- and post-game colorful comments, good humour, ill humour, killer memes, key video links…it’s how I keep my fandom on the rails.

Much appreciated.

The future holds immense fun.

Let just remember that 4 months ago, we were actually looking, and not in sarcasm, as to which top 5 pick would we be getting. We actually made the playoffs. And fought hard battles on every single game despite losing our No1 goalie. And being that young.

It's just a great season. But that needs to be the bottom of what it is to come. It's actually the very first test for that management. 'Cause NOW expectations are there. Let's go and do it!

Game 1: Habs 35 shots, Caps 32
Game 2: Habs 26, Caps 32
Game 3: Habs 40, Caps 21
Game 4: Habs 18, Caps 26
Game 5: Habs 29, Caps 28

Habs out shot the caps 3 out of 5 games.

Expected goals
Game 1: Habs 3.66, Caps 3.68
Game 2: Habs 2.89, Caps 4.12
Game 3: Habs 4.49, Caps 1.81
Game 4: Habs 1.86, Caps 3.17
Game 5: Habs 4, Caps 3.62

Habs and caps are tied 2.5 games a piece for expected goals as well(Let's not hang over 0.02 goals for G1).

Which games were you watching?
Now do shots at 5v5 and shots while trailing.

I think it was close, but I don't think the Canadiens were great. I just think Washington are no where near as good as their regular season record.

They're going to get smoked by Carolina.
Agreed. Which is a bit lame because we could've beaten them pretty "easy" if only we had some talent and a.. a good coach

GG everyone, now go rest and come back next season bigger, better and stronger with a vengence in mind.

Players I don't want to see no more in the Habs uniform:
  • Savard (too old, washed, thank god he's retiring)
  • Newhook (just bad overall, brings nothing to the table, except speed... stone hands)
  • Armia (too soft, waste of a roster spot)
  • Gallagher (too small, too expensive and too old)
  • Dvorak (ok veteran, but the Habs already have Evans doing the same thing)
  • Struble (nothing special, the new Jordan Harris, trade bait)
  • Dach (soft, injury prone, can't rely on)
  • Laine (he has to fix his body first, otherwise bye bye)
:teach:
Hope Hughes doesn't sell them with those pitches because there won't be many buyers ;)

Tons of respect for the coach.... listen to this...

Okay.

So, this is quite literally what I was explaining to some posters here. I know not everyone has coached the game, reads on strategy or listens to coaching conferences.

However, if you looked closely, there was a whole game plan around Suzuki and it gave Slaf and Caufield more space. They would rather let other players try to do their stuff than Suzuki, who's just a brilliant player when he's on. MSL tried to adjust by putting him on the second line on the third, but it was too little too late. The team needs more depth.

The only reason why we lose it because the team was very green. Especially our core, in fact, we would have lost vs every team in the playoff. Washington were just opportunistic and their player had experience. Thats it.
In 4/5 years it's going to be the opposite and we gonna beat those young team at the 8th position.
