Post-Game Talk: Habs lose Blackhawks in a Shootout. Fail to clinch Playoffs.

Leading into the game I was under the impression that Chicago was a shit team and didn't care about how they perform and Montreal was trying to get into the playoffs. Now after seeing that game, it looked like the total opposite.

I believe we found our franchise player. No doubt in my mind now. This kid will be the fuel of this franchise for the next 10 years.

This run was a freak run, led by young leaders. You can’t shut down that just because you believe you need more ammo. You can’t do that as an organisation. They let the kids ride and they did.

I do agree with Pratt this morning when he says this looks a lot like 1970. I see great things for this squad because of 93-14-22-48. That is pretty talent top 4 players. Better than what most teams have. And our franchise player is just 19.

Need one more offensive element, plus some better sand paper for the bottom lines.

This coach did good by bringing them there. He too will need to take the next step. Not be afraid to use the hot hands when it’s time.

Next game, if 93 is again the lone star out there, PLAY HIM 23-24 mins! First PP, first line, IDGAF. Play him. He’ll rise up to the challenge. He’s already at that level at 19 years of age. Incredible.
We had Dryden in '70.... We don't have anything like that in the roster now. That'll have to be Fowler -- we'll also have to get him a veteran backup. A shutdown D will be a necessity as well, and a proper 2C to center Demidov. Still quite a few pieces away.

Bright side is Columbus can't falter and absolutely needs to win both games in regulation. And Habs still have one game which they only need to tie for 60 minutes, which they've done the last two games.

It very much looked like the same Demidov we saw in the KHL. Great hands, great vision, smooth skater, good positioning and a good read. Doesn't hesitate when he has the puck. I think he would've competed for the Calder this season had he not have a contract in the KHL.

Future is bright, stop complaining.
I said the same thing about Hutson at the end of last season. Both players pretty much jumped right in with both feet, no hesitation.

Definitely agree, he definitely would have been in the mix *sorry lol* for the Calder.

I find the whole Nazar shootout goal complaint hilarious. What exactly did it change? You think Laine would try more to score if he knew it went in? You think MSL would have put someone else as the shooter if down a goal?

I just think it's bush league that they didn't follow the rule book. You can't just make something up like that.

Meh it happens. I don't think anyone would have thought that Dach would be as injury prone as he has been. Dach is still young though, he has time to bounce back.
He looked his best on wing with Suzuki and Caulfield, looked better than Slowfootsky anyways.

You’re not wrong. I’m just seeing red flags in our pro scouting. Forget the injuries. The guy is a perimeter big man who can’t shot and is soft.
Can’t set up players because his vision is subpar. What’s the point of a player like that in the top 6.

We should’ve stuck to the rebuild and kept the better long term asset.

Hughes takes risks, and this one, just like the Barron for Lehk. Was a L

Good question. I dont think the whole issue is on MSL, but as a coach he bears a big part of the responsibility.

For me, bringing MSL as coach was a fantastic move, a breath of fresh air. No longer playing offensive rookies on 3rd and 4th lines, giving players a chance to make mistakes. Having a coach who's career just recently ended, bringing him closer to the players, and most importantly having an underdog who went on to prove everyone wrong. A fantastic leader. I don't think Caufield and Hudson are where they are without MSL. Can you guys imagine Hudson dancing around with the puck like he does with Therrien?? He was exactly the kind of coach this team needed, but in time his limited strategic mind started to show. I noticed some old school tactics that I don't think I've noticed with him before. The same approach that previous dinosaur coaches used to be penned for.

1. Keep vets that are struggling in the lineup, no matter what they cost us in terms of goals or wins.

But more importantly :

2. Don't adjust your team, even slightly, especially when they are clearly struggling. Win or lose.

....
1. That was always there, see Matheson. Or Gallagher getting late game shifts to protect a lead after playing a lot when everyone knows he doesn't have the juice for it (at least MSL learned from that one or Gally told him to stop...since Gally knows he can't play more than 15 minutes).

2. In the first 1.5 years of his career has Habs HC, MSL was doing in-game adjustment way more. He was talking to his players behind the bench a lot and adjusting. This year, it's like he told his players: learn to get yourself out of your mess alone. And I don't remember the last time he tried to swap line matching when a line was struggling.

Maybe I'm not up to speed, but where do the refs think the puck went? they went and got a fresh one for some reason.

Maybe some people will finally start admitting how garbage of a coach Marty is.
He’s not the one sucking and out of gas…Team has over achieved and is back to exactly what it is: a one-line, underaged team with one good depth vet line.

Team asked for no changes and there they are lol. Poor Suzuki. A 2nd line center with Demidov and everything will be better I bet.

690 says they are tired no energy left

so then how does the Hawks have it, CBJ have it, Philly have it
that is garbage.. habs have not played more games then other teams
I dont' get the tired deal

Yep, I think what shocks me the most is that even with Gally playing those minutes, he never caused so many turnovers or was directly the result of a goal for the other team. Matheson is a wreck 60% of the time he has the puck, there's an other team goal on his hands almost every game.

Habs are completely front-loaded with so little talent; Hutson and Suzuki need others to step up so they can breathe. If they make the playoffs that rest will be welcomed.
