Post-Game Talk: Habs lose 6-4 to Flyers

The first two goals killed us we gave a bad team the belief that they could beat us.
Joshua Roy and Jake Evans have to be much better and were directly responsible with NO coverage.

This is not even close to playoff quality hockey where one lapse can cost you a game.
Do we need to can some Bell Centre atmosphere and pipe it into the dressing room to get these players to go all in? What happened to the short 45 second give it your all and get off shifts?

I'm not sure what happened to that aggressive we are playing with house money approach.
Both times we've touched a wild card position our game has gone to shit because we've changed our aproach and opted for a passive defensive posture. I've hated the game plan ever since that Islander's game.

MSL plays 'p***y' hockey, that's his style. He always seems to pull them back from the forecheck and aggressive hockey that put them on win streaks.

Armia is playing with an injured hand. He likely shouldn’t be playing at all.

Jake is just playing as what he always was, an average 4th liner.

I never heard this about Armia, that doesn't explain his bonehead plays but yeah.. he shouldn't be playing. Evans was playing decently though, now he's invisible since the contract.

I forget which game it was but Joel fell and landed on his hand. The camera went to him on the bench and he was in a lot of pain. He’s been awful ever since.

----- when the going gets tough................

............... the Montreal Canadians players plan their mid-April golf getaway extravaganza-------------

or at least it sure looks like that is the case.lol

The type of game they played last night is exactley what drives the fans nuts, how could you be so polar opposite of how you were playing just recently, the reselience tag becomes laughable,i too could care less about tonights game because deep down i know they obviously just don't give a shit about being consistent and the "tired" excuse is getting pathetically OLD,this team is so fu##king mismanaged between playing Monty to much ,or not enough playing time for Dobes, or playing Armia when he obviously is playing injured ,over playing Matheson, over punishing X the list goes and on and on......Again,Rookie coaching staff for a complete rebuild is just plain stupid but then again the GM is a rookie as well but God forbid you question any of his many wrong decisions.Three years in and what have we really decisively accomplished ? we basically have one somewhat solid line and the rest is meh .
Some solid points............and at the same time, we seem to be where, they hoped we would be...............but so many frustrations with HuGo to a certain degree, and MSL at time too.........

The team looks tired as f***.

Need better depth up front. Too much pressure on the top line to do it all and can't sit guys that need it.

Depends on the 1st & 8th seeds.

For example I have way more confidence with an upset involving STL in the west. They are a good 8th seed team & firing on all cylinders.

Habs/NYI/NYR/etc will have to play WSH or one of the Atlantic teams. That is such a heavy mismatch. Only team I can see pulling off an upset is NYR strictly because of sheshterkin. The rest don't stand a chance

I wouldn't even consider St Louis winning much if an upset considering they've been the best team in the league for two months...

So yeah, what the two teams are matters, but even then, we do occasionally upsets.

Frankly, I'm not terribly sold on the Caps come playoffs, despite how good they've been in the regular season. They strike me as the type of #1 ripe for an upset.

The team isn't playing well and looks tired just like before the 4 Nations. But the coaching staff needs has made some questionable calls from my opinion from not giving Dobes a start earlier to keep Monty fresh to more perplexing the defense. It's clear outside of the Hutson pairing, the defense is struggling. Matheson is trying to do too much and Savard is a liability out there. Something needs to change quickly.

Newhook is contributing, so are Dvo, Gally, Laine, etc.

They indeed are tired, but to me the (losing) recipe has been the same the last three games - we execute like crap, our zone exits have become a terrible mess. Any kind of aggressive forecheck has us in shambles, we make mistakes after mistakes.

It's like the guys started to believe they were a little better than they actually are, and all want to raise their heads and take their sweet time before picking an option. It's painfully obvious to see that we can't align 2-3 consecutive quick passes on set plays anymore (especially zone exits). We had success sending guys on breakaway a couple times by flipping the puck, but its become a habit to try low percentage shit (just like Slaf shooting from crap angles).

You just look at the game VS the Blues where every dump we made ended up in an easy zone exit, while they got sustained O zone time whenever they did.

Fast and heavy forecheck is an opportunity in itself for the defending team IF they can execute a quick pass of two and send the puck the other way. If you're unorganized, it's all chaos and you get dominated on forced turnovers.

Couple that with our hybrid coverage system that still shows hiccups here and there.. and you end up with Michkov all alone in front of the net.

Marty needs to clean up this mess fast because we'll be talking draft picks much sooner than expected otherwise.

PS: I don't blame Dobes. Pressure crept up because the boys played like crap. He also made incredible saves, I still trust our elf

Dobes just isn't ready. Primeau f***ed up the plans.
It's not a matter of goalies. Habs give silverplate occasions to score for opposite team and they berely have shots on the other net. Having a top goalie would be losses anyway. Habs have at least from 6 to 8 deadwood in their line-up. They are subpar nhlers who should be changed for better and in better shape.

This is how Habs are right now. Tired, washed-up and clearly the end of the toilet roller paper.
