Post-Game Talk: Habs lose 6-4 to Flyers

Thats a lack of talent level through the line-up. the top line has to carry the team cause the 2nd line isnt working at all, Laine is very slow and uneffective at even strength, Roy is a marginal player with weaknesses at that point and Newhook not quite a natural center. Then, Dvorak, Gally, Anderson have been our 2nd most consistent line, but thats more of a grind line than a talented one. We rely on Hutson, the top line and PP too much. If Guhle can come back soon, maybe it gives a bit more stability on the back end and helps in the last stretch, we will see.
We’re missing guys who’d be eating a lot of ice time. No Dach and no Guhle is huge. We’re double shifting Suzuki because we don’t have another center who can score. Laine is still recovering, Huston’s logging huge minutes…

This team has been playing over its head for a while.

Legit question:
How many active NHL coaches who were NHL players have made for good coaches? Active ones.

The only guy I can think of is Brind'amour.

It seems, to me (but am totally willing to change my position on this), that ex NHL players generally do not make good NHL coaches but tend to be the first in line for those positions. Especially player friendly ones.

Second question:

What is the purpose of having coaching assistants if we think Marty is in charge of player deployment? What is Robidas's role on the team? Because, perhaps, Marty is not directly responsible for the way the D are deployed?

I don't know. Grabbing at straws.

So... what are the theories out there as for why Habs are so out of gas and tired. I mean, does anyone honestly believe that individually they are worse conditioned than anyone else? Or is it because they are constantly overextending trying to play the system they have neither talent, nor IQ to play? Thoughts?
I don't believe this for a single second. Professional athletes have only a single job. Very few of them exert maximum effort for 20 minutes a game. Most of them are in the twenties. And the guy who plays lime 30 minutes a game is in his 30s. You're gonna try and convince me that an athlete who's only real exertion is about max 2hrs a week is tired?

Naw. It's mental weakness/motivation. These guys are dumb as rock and don't think what they are doing is important. More focused on getting laid and partying.

It's all about picking players with the right attitude and I think KH has done that but they will take time to get here. In the meantime we're stuck with a bunch of knuckle heads.

What a pile of rot, isn't Philadelphia the team that is suppose to be garbage? How did Montreal get in a playoff position? The league must really be decrepit.

it definitely sucks... was hoping for a better showing tonight... but the goaltending has been very shakey, defensively we have not been great... and the boys have scored.. but its hard to win when you let in 4-6 goals a game..

in the end none of us expected them to be near a playoff spot at this point in the season.. so if they fall short I still feel this is a successful season... we wanted to be in the mix.. we are. I said before the season I see them finishing 12 - 15th last.. unless everyone gets their shit together real f***ing quick... thats about where they will and thats still a huge improvement!

definitely need a big off-season.. and hey we got Demidov coming! wooo!

...but tonight still sucks lol

See, this is annoying now: Slafkovsky is back to his dainty, 1 SoG per night shenanigans. Who can expect to rely on such a player?

The team lacks depth. It’s frustrating to bleed out at the very end but the good guys don’t always win, get the girl, and defy the odds… besides, we’d get pummeled in the playoffs regardless.

We don’t have a second line, we don’t have a top-pairing, we don’t have a reliable goaltender… our role players are extremely cooked (specifically: Armia, Savard, Gallagher).

Matheson doesn’t want to be so overexposed, we just don’t have other options.

MSL is not a miracle worker… can’t be blaming him too much imo

Here's my theory. MSL has them punching above their weight. They are not that good especially without Guhle.

Their margin for error is so small. Only way for Habs to win is if they go 150%, everyone is on same page & goaltending is solid. You can do this in stretches but tough to do every single game

When a team is asked to overachieve constantly, it will catch up with them.

It's like when they used to squeak into the playoffs as the 8th seed, take a round and then have nothing left in round 2-3.

Anyone can look at this roster and see all the holes still. They should be applauded for what they've done honestly.

75 points is good for 11th right now in the west. Normally that's where we'd be but the east is so weak this year we are artificially in a playoffs spot right now.

If the team is so tired how is it that Newhook chap skates like he's been shot out of a cannon. He stood out for the right reasons, really enjoying seeing his speed. A well deserved goal and solid on faceoffs.

This is a stretch dude. I don't see lack of motivation personally. They are just not good and have been playing way over their heads.

I guess they must be seeing Matheson as the future of this D then and no one else. Apparently he offers something no other D on the team does. Imagine how bad the rest of the must he if Matheson is the go-to guy for Marty.

Imagine you're Xhekaj and you get benched after one bad pass and watch Matheson get 30 minutes of non stop turnovers and shooting in shin pads. Imagine how that would make you feel.

There are far too many players that need to move on from this team over the summer. The Habs need to close this MB chapter and truly and fully move into the KH one. Team still doesn't feel like it has an identity. We can't be swimming in mediocrity anymore.

The issue is like anything else, they somehow decided to hand pick Matheson as our number one D and so he plays against the best lines. Whereas he would be a 4th D in any other teams. Usually it should be Ghule in that spot but he's always injured.

Showed you the state of this team and really it's a miracle that they are where they are. I think Jack would be much better if he played with someone other than freaking dinosaur Savard.

We keep talking about wanting to get a center next summer but oh boy do we need a top D or what. I'm gonna put Dach with the Calgary pick and Mailloux and Jack Evans and Chris Evans and Sidney Sweeney and fly them to Long Island for Dobson.

Lets stay positive all the boys kept their buddies at the deadline
I'll be honest, I couldn't care less about that, I think keeping Evans at that price was the 100% right choice... as far as not selling Dvorak or Savard is not a huge loss.. what were we gonna get for them? a 3rd at best?

..and im in the camp of keeping Armia... well i mean, I'll be fine with keeping him... and ok if they dont... so im not too upset about not selling the.... we got a shit ton of picks already.

I am sick of the lack of physicality from the Habs. When things are going badly do something. I wish sometime they would try Jack on the fourth line to crash and bang. Guys like Armia and Evans are so lifeless.
A.Xhekaj F.Xhekaj Mailloux 4th line LFG!
