Post-Game Talk: Habs lose 6-4 to Flyers

So... what are the theories out there as for why Habs are so out of gas and tired. I mean, does anyone honestly believe that individually they are worse conditioned than anyone else? Or is it because they are constantly overextending trying to play the system they have neither talent, nor IQ to play? Thoughts?

Fair enough, I'm not always right lol

I agree, none of those 4 played well. So why he chose X, I have no idea. In fairness, nobody really played well tonight. (Not including Hutson). So you can't sit everyone. There have been times where MSL has sat veterans, Laine being one off the top of my head. The players love MSL, if he's fired, there would be a mutiny. Which is why I'd suggest the team added an experienced assistant coach. People will laugh or think I'm drunk. But if I'm Hughes, I'm on the phone to Torts right now.
That makes two of us (I'm not always right either lol).

You may be right but unfortunately, the only vet I can remember being benched is Laine. It gets tiring and old when you keep blaming the same 2 or 3 players as if no one else makes any mistakes. It may be a solution to get some help for the midget but I really can't see it. His head is too big to accept a capable and experienced assistant.

Anyhow, good debate, see you tomorrow lol.

I am sick of the lack of physicality from the Habs. When things are going badly do something. I wish sometime they would try Jack on the fourth line to crash and bang. Guys like Armia and Evans are so lifeless.

That team on paper should not make the playoffs. Why in Monteral it's always about not trying hard enough or not caring enough and never the f***ing skills. It's never the f***ing skills ever. I'm sick of that shit the media and fans are pulling. This is not a playoffs team. The other teams have the right to work hard too and win games. That team would need to give their 150% every games for 82 games to make it and nobody can do that. If they make the playoffs it's going to be a miracle so take it as it is and enjoy the ride there's still work to be done by KH next summer.
We’ve played a lot better down the stretch than I thought we would. We still have a really good shot at the playoffs but with the holes we have I’m surprised we’re so close. I really thought we were fully done when Guhle went down.

Was getting annoyed at Dobes not getting starts, laughed at the comments by Pierre McGuire saying they don't start him because they don't trust him because he's been exposed as being easy to beat upstairs.

My apologies Pierre, you were right he's not NHL caliber. Fowler can't come soon enough. A proper #2 D also can't come soon enough to take over from Matheson. He definitely needs a reduced role.
And then when Fowler comes everyone will dump on him in his first season too.

The symptoms were there in the last 6 games. We were lucky but now I don’t think there is nothing left in the tank. It was a nice season.

That is why we should have started Dobes against either the AVS or the Blues. The Flyers was a must win…

I guess they must be seeing Matheson as the future of this D then and no one else. Apparently he offers something no other D on the team does. Imagine how bad the rest of the must he if Matheson is the go-to guy for Marty.

Imagine you're Xhekaj and you get benched after one bad pass and watch Matheson get 30 minutes of non stop turnovers and shooting in shin pads. Imagine how that would make you feel.

There are far too many players that need to move on from this team over the summer. The Habs need to close this MB chapter and truly and fully move into the KH one. Team still doesn't feel like it has an identity. We can't be swimming in mediocrity anymore.

I agree with @LaP and @SuzukiSZN, the team is exhausted and not very good on paper, the 1st line cant do it all every nights, the 2nd line isnt working, Evans and Heineman arent playing great hockey lately, Anderson, Armia are banged up ect. But we are still in the mix and we still could end up making the playoffs, other teams in the race arent playing good hockey either.

If we clinch a playoffs spot without Dach, thats basically a miracle to me. I dont think MSL deserves to be bashed, he told everyone at the begin of the season that he wanted to be in the mix, here we are with a pretty average and banged up line-up...
Sorry but how can this team be exhausted?

Besides Savard, the entire team is young and so the energy should still be there regardless

No one played at the 4 nations cup so they even had a mini break there

The problem is inconsistency and lack of engagement

Too many guys will have a nice little hot streak and then dissapear for games.

And the lack of sandpaper is something that they better fix soon.

No but simple they not talented enough, which we knew and had to play conbaxk games against many teams . They outperformed and now that maximum exersion is coming back to haunt them and they simply out of gaz. We saw the same thing before the break , and we saw what the rest did to them .

Thats a lack of talent level through the line-up. the top line has to carry the team cause the 2nd line isnt working at all, Laine is very slow and uneffective at even strength, Roy is a marginal player with weaknesses at that point and Newhook not quite a natural center. Then, Dvorak, Gally, Anderson have been our 2nd most consistent line, but thats more of a grind line than a talented one. We rely on Hutson, the top line and PP too much. If Guhle can come back soon, maybe it gives a bit more stability on the back end and helps in the last stretch, we will see.

Lack of depth. Injuries. Holes in the lineup.

And we’ve never been particularly good defensively.
