Post-Game Talk: Habs lose 4-1 to Canes

Can’t edit my last post… the Habs seem tired but it’s not exhaustion it’s:

Lack of depth in skill positions

Can’t rotate bottom sixers

Don’t have enough youthful energy

Can’t call up AHLers because of their campaign

It’s not a good roster and Hughes purposefully didn’t acquire NHL depth at the deadline because he felt it would be a futile expense
such a well oiled machine

They were playing way over their heads after the break, and came back down to earth. Fun while it lasted.
I don't think they were playing over their heads. I honestly think that the current roster is quite capable of the level of play they displayed in December and again after the 4 Nation break; they just can't sustain it, which is not surprising given the only well constructed, and therefore, productive line is Suzuki's. It's not a great leap into the rebuilding science unknown, but a second C (not a make-shift one, a real one) would go along way in adding offensive support, and also allowing that line to rest.

Habs record after 72 games:

Last year: 28-32-12 for 68 points with 200 goals for and 246 against
This year: 33-30-9 for 75 points with 216 goals for and 244 against

The number that stands out for me is the goals against. Seems like one of the stated goals before the season was to bring that total down. A reminder that there is still a ways to go.

25 goals against in their last 5 games certainly hasn’t helped.

What you meant is Habs are so bad when Matheson and or Savard are on the ice!

Someone explain to me how Matheson didn't get benched after that bone head play as the last man in the zone to curl back into his corner lose thepuck create a scoring chance for Carolina which leads to a penalty.

On top of that that idiot coach thinks its a good idea to reward him with specials team minutes on that very same PK where MOntreal gets scored on and the rest was history.

But anytime the only guy that can protect anyone or intimidate the other team makes any mistake he gets benched !

Keep Matheson and Savard off the goddamn ice and get a coach who knows WTF he's doing !
Yup,Arber looks like he"s playing nervous, restrained like the last time Smarty was on his case, but in all fairness KH hasn't given Smarty much help ,oh wait he is a Rookie GM,Thanks JG.

Yeah, at this point it's not even worth mentioning st louis. he is what he is and it is management's fault that we have a coaching staff that we have. And that team got zero help at the deadline. Nobody can tell me that with a little bit more structure and system that better suits current roster, Habs wouldn't have 5-6 more wins. Man to man, does Ottawa have a better team? Does New Jersey? Each team not named Wash and Carolina has a couple of star players, and rest is a crapshoot. THe difference is coaching, taking advantage of each player's strength and managing the weaknesses. Not trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

They'll discover firsthand that reaching the playoffs is a difficult feat, not something to be assumed or overlooked. Unfortunately, this team lacks the necessary quality to contend for a playoff spot. Their efforts and faith were commendable, but this is the NHL, not a fairytale, we need more talent.

From what I've learned reading this thread. Is that our team is awful, embarrassing and pathetic. And some still hold that this board somehow isn't toxic.

If anything you're describing a large chunk of this fanbase.

This team has accomplished everything they set out to do going into this season, and some, despite the numerous hinderances and obstacles they've had to overcome, mainly due to the lack of any 2nd line for the majority of the season, and injuries and lack of D depth with many forced to play in their wrong seats.

What they've done this year deserves props and respect, along with some excitement for the future of this team. Not whatever the hell this is.

Gain some freaking perspective. This team's bright future is going to be wasted on a lot of you.

If the team continues to fall out of the playoffs, do you give Primeau a last chance of sorts and bring him up for a couple of starts? 17-2-1 in Laval 2.08 and .919 with 2 shutouts.

More than not if The first line doesn't get most of the points this team loses
Hutson supplies chances for others but they don't finish

Habs needed to either buy or sell

The overall team not physical enough work ethic questionable
I'd like to know what happened to Caufield.

There are toxic people for sure but I still hold that this forum is not particularly toxic.

I think we had less that average injuries in terms of time and quality of injured player. We definitely have little depth to deal with that and very little margin in terms of making playoffs.

That’s exactly what I’ve need saying. This roster is capable of being a playoffs team. But the system they are playing isn’t allowing them too.

It’s not the system, theres simply no 2nd line generating offense, so on the road teams overload on covering the 1st line knowing if they shut them down … there’s minimal offense.

Habs are a much much stronger team at home because of this reason…their home vs road record backs it up

Damn he playing like that over there?? I feel bad for Dobes too, I really think riding the pine this last little while has hurt him. He's too awkwardly built to not be getting some ice time. Playing against your teammates ain't the same as playing against ppl who wanna take your head off.

Maybe they did not play over their head but they were extremely lucky in that sequence. Would like to know their PDO for that sequence it has to be high. That breakaway goal Gallagher scored against NYI it was perfect tape to tape pass by Pageau. It was never a question of if the team would come back to earth but when the team would come back to earth. I don't think i've ever seen a team make the playoffs with two players having 20 points on the 2nd line. Can't think of any.

Not even sure why people are mad. The best thing that could happen to this team this season is to fight for a playoffs spot for 90% of the season and play meaningful games and then have a bad sequence in the last 10 games to draft 11th and teach the kids what must be done to not miss the next time.

Home : 18-12-5
Away : 15-18-4

Last change is even more important when you have just one offensive line.

I agree, MSL put a dent in his confidence, instead of playing him when he was hot MSL inexplicably gave Monty a bigger workload and let Dobes sit, it didn't make any sense.

I read a couple of posts from a Leafs fan today saying that when the pressure went up the Habs started choking and folding. I guess he should know since if anyone is qualified to be an expert on a team choking and folding under pressure it's a Leafs fan. :DD
Stop reading posts from the mentally Pejorative Slured.

There are a group of people that wait in the wings until they lose or have a bad stretch to come out and become nasty. These same people are nowhere to be seen when they are winning or doing well. Look at the few first pages and you can see who they are. I visit a lot of other team boards on this site and none are anywhere near as pathetic as this one. They'll be upset or mad but they move on and most don't resort to the childish name calling of the players either. Here they fester and turn this place into a toxic shithole. Some good posters have gone away and don't post here anymore either. You can see them on the main boards though.

Why are some people complaining about "toxic" posters? These threads are open to anyone to express their opinions within limits and guidelines.
If you don't agree with a specific comment then let it be known if you want, or just ignore it.
Personally, I find "toxic" posters interesting and a good source of entertainment.

This is a fact of all sports fandom. Not sure how old you are but you must be rather inexperienced if you think this exact scenario is new or novel.

The old guys watching the game at the bar only piss and moan and are rarely happy. It’s part and parcel of fan sports. As common as beer farts.

Hell, the famous bar on Bishop was called GRUMPY’s.

You must be high if you think a high stakes playoff chase falling apart at the finish line with piss poor efforts WONT have a negative reflection from fans

Seems like you’re convinced of your imminent departure. Can we do anything to change your mind?
