Post-Game Talk: Habs lose 4-1 to Canes

I want to bring everyone some hope from Laval-
As I posted earlier Laval clinched a playoff spot which is excellent.
Some of the prospects I want to discuss-

Florian Xhekaj scores his 19th. He is barely 20, is 6'4 195, has 159 penalty minutes and is a plus 8.

Adam Engstrom is as good a Dman as any on this Laval Squad. He resembles Scott Niedermayer the way he skates. Will he be an NHL player? The way he skates he will get a serious look.

Filip Mesar- don't count him out just yet...he is starting to find his game and is very creative with the puck on his stick.

Owen Beck- just needs time. Great skater, smart player.

Mailloux- i like him but I am not sure he has a future in Montreal

Reinbacher- didn't play tonight but imo he is the one I would call up if the Habs needed a player. Kid is going to be good.

Hey the Habs have met their goal for the year...they are playing meaningful games into April.

One thing I am sure of is this rebuild is on track, the prospect pool is as deep as I have ever seen in in Montreal. Remember not that long ago that the only option on D to start the season was teenager Victor Mete? We have come a long way.

Young team. The same thing happened to the Flyers last year. Flyers ironically lost a crushing game to us last year down the wire.

I agree. I haven't looked at the stats lately, but I think they're the second youngest, no ?

It's still disappointing as this is a good group that's easy to cheer for when they're on. They just seem shell shocked, like fresh new marines having to fight on Peluliu. They don't seem to know how to react to playoff type tight games.

At the very least, its good that they're learning, but I still feel that making the post-season would be a significant confidence booster for the whole club long term.

HuGo have a high batting average on their moves but I bet they wish they would have kept Jake Allen to take some of the load off Monty. The team has totally lost confidence in Dobes. Last night's loss in Philly was the real killer.

This season Hughes wanted his young Habs team to be in the mix for a playoff spot and to play some meaningful games down the stretch and he got that from his team and even if they come up short that's ok.

I think next season was the season Hughes and Gorton had circled for the Habs to be a playoff team and with a bit of work this off season, adding a 2nd line center and maybe another experienced dman to replace Savard, plus a reliable backup goalie, while also adding Demidov and Reinbacher the Habs should be in decent shape to earn a playoff spot next season.

Lets hope so anyway.

If the Habs don't make it I hope Columbus is the ones the squeeze in. That organization has been through alot and if they make the post season it will be great for them and their fans.

100%. I listened to Olivier's Chiclets interview and that room sounds like a bunch of fun. They have Monahan, Werenski and Marchenko too. Would be a good story and I'd love for both NY teams to miss it.

Game went about how I expected. Carolina are the 90s New Jersey Devils without the cups - boring as shit.

Montreal is done, I think. There seems to be very little energy from this team as far as a playoff push goes. Only Hutson is still bringing it.

They've lost their playoff spot to Columbus, who won tonight & are playing with speed, drive & energy.

NYR could pass them tonight too.

Habs could be 10th by tomorrow morning. 11th by Sunday's game.

They had it and then blew it.

Good to see Guhle back, though. Guhle, Hutson & Reinbacher are going to be a huge part of our D over the next several seasons.

You speak the truth.

When you lose 5 games in a row at this time of year in a playoff push, you don’t deserve to make the playoffs.

Hopefully Sunday we don’t make it 6
I think pretty much every team in this wildcard race has had a brutal losing streak at this crucial time

Man that Voronkov story of him watching a reel of a bear just devouring a poor animal right before a game had me laughing my ass off. Wish we had Olivier.

And Columbus' goaltender is absolute garbage. Any good team should pile up the goals against them. Canucks win easily if the sieve wasn't in net.

Really disappointing outcome. Adding a forward or two would have helped immensely at the deadline. They just had to get a few points and they'd be solidly in control of WC2, instead we've gotten a string of losses where they looked like complete ass. The team is crumbling under the pressure.
Someone that 99% of fans wanted like "Michkov" sure would have helped. But nope, these idiots on the Habs brass dont even know better than regular fans on a board. Sad.

I read a couple of posts from a Leafs fan today saying that when the pressure went up the Habs started choking and folding. I guess he should know since if anyone is qualified to be an expert on a team choking and folding under pressure it's a Leafs fan. :DD
We started folding right out of the gate in October lol.
