Yea, but what’s going on that he already needs a “maintenance day”? it’s a concern. He is young in his prime, not 35 and at the end of his career. Like if Crosby needs a day, I get it. But Matthews? Not a great sign.
Maintenance day is used to not alarm anyone.
He could have taken a puck off his ankle...give him a maintenance day.

ZERO concern at this point.

Cowan in again. Greb not. Lorentz also makes his debut.

This is the NHL squad minus the injuries, Woll and Knies.

Agreed if Matthews isn't able to go for these important pre-season games it's time to start questioning things. Other guys around the league are pushing through things this time of year

What is this? Seriously?

The guy is gonna play 25+ minutes day in and out for probably the majority of the season, and we're worried and complaining he's taking a maintenance day to probably just let a bump/bruise/whatever heal up, who cares about a meaningless game in pre-season, and it's not even the last one. You think Crosby ever took a maintenance day in his prime? The answer -- yes.

What is everyone concerned about with Matthews? Do you play or have you ever played sports? Sometimes you have a minor injury and since the games don't matter at all, why would you risk aggravating it further by playing?
As long as he's ready for the playoffs.

Take your time Auston.

Not much out there, but $12mm in LTIR would cover a couple prospects.

Matthews does have some injury history that’s pretty common. He gets hurt almost every 2 years in a way that impacts his play

I highly highly doubt this injury is that, but it is a bit worrying that he’s hurt

This will be our defence game 1, so will be interesting to see how they play as a unit.

Especially going to watch who Liljegren plays with and how he plays. I feel like he's a lowkey important player for us and if he plays well, the depth and handedness of the group should be okay.

Another 'who cares' pre-season game. Our Leafs play like they don't care, while the Habs take the game seriously and try to win the game.

Being win less in pre-season means nothing. It's not important to set a precedence of a winning culture before the games count for real. One just needs to flick on that competitive switch once the games count for real, especially when the playoffs start for real.

Take this game off Auston, there is no reason to get yourself into game shape for the regular season and beyond.

So dramatic.
