I thought this should have happened long ago - thought it would be Yan Perrault, but Marc Bureau was amazing at face offs as a Hab too. I like this move!

Interesting that this wasn't Martin St. Louis' idea though. It came from head office!

That’s second guessing

Great! Now all we need is an NHL coach.
Yup.

Perreault has been working with Chicago for 11 years.
And the Chicago Blackhawks have ranked 24th overall in faceoff % over that time period.

If it was as easy as hiring ex-players who were really great at at a particular skill when they used to play, then the Utah Hockey Club wouldn't exist because Wayne Gretzky would have turned the Arizona Coyotes into a dynasty.

Or even better, the Montreal Canadiens wouldn't currently sucked because well, you know, the guy behind the bench was a pretty good player.

It's cool that the Habs hired Marc Bureau, I remember him during his playing days, it doesn't mean that almost 25 years removed from playing in the NHL, that his faceoff ability will translate to coaching and be manifested through Habs players.

It depends on how he communicates. Some people are great teachers and some others are not.

Don’t think he was hired

I think he was just invite
Career 51% yeah just an invite.
Trying to get the group to 50% :sarcasm:

We are pretty bad at winger assisted wins and we struggle with centers who know how to protect the puck first before trying to win the draw.
They kind of go hand in hand because wingers jumping in is the one way to beat the second scenario.

We should start with a D coach first. The D is a bigger problem Imo. Anyone with a brain would shelter Matheson instead of playing him 20 minutes a game.

Matheson is already sheltered by being put with our best defensive D in Guhle.

Since Struble, Barron, Xhekaj haven't shown they can play more than 15 minutes a game, there is no one else to fill Matheson's minutes.

Marc Bureau is at 53.4% in career according to NHL.com.

Since 1980 among players with 1000 FO taken Bureau stands at around 70th ish in FOW%.

That's far from bing terrible.

:dunno:
I clicked on a link and misread it actually said Bureau was never below 51.4 in the four years they kept track.
I didn't realize they only started keeping stats the last 4 of his 11 seasons.

Get real gang: getting to 50% means winning 1, maybe 2 more faceoffs a game. On the other hand, getting faceoffs when it counts could really help defense or PP.

Yeah I wish there was a +/- point system used for the stat that rewards critical wins.
Say plus or minus 1 point for normal draws and plus or minus 2 points for critical draws.
Add in a plus or minus 2 for all draws that result in an immediate(ish) goal.

We all have a good idea as to what could be construed as a critical draw.

Winning more face-offs will help us, but it will barely help us.

We need to learn how to play defence. Our d zone is a full on mess and it's totally disgusting.

Winning one or two more faceoffs in a game might prevent one or two long shifts where we're hemmed in our zone each game. But we're consistently being hemmed in anyways so it's not gonna move the needle much.

...and Big George keeps saying the Habs should trade Xhekaj!? That's really unsettling.

No he wants them to trade him because they don't dress him every game because sometimes he's unplayable. So he tries to invent the notion they don't appreciate him and would trade him.

He's an idiot.

Cool, now if only they could bring in people that can teach them how to play defense and score some goals.
