Dobes still has a lot to work on which should be expected. The more he plays, the more his holes will be exploited. Lindgren, Condon, and Tokarski all got off to hot starts only to come back down to earth. Still excited about his future. He’s come a long way since I first saw him in the AHL so he’s still growing.
It seems to me Price started having problems once the entire City put him on a pedestal. I distinctly remember his first All Star appearance he was terrible and then continued to play terrible afterwards. You could even put price and Roy on that boat.
It wasn't until 2010-2011 that price never looked back in the context of becoming the permanent starter, and he certainly had his struggles to get there.
Roy's beginning was before my time but I think he was splitting time until the late 80s where he finally became the workhorse #1.
I found a video of it on TSN here: Canadiens' Dobes shines in OT to make his 'big moment' a winner | TSNSeeing Quick playing with and stealing Slafs stick was so friggin' hilarious!

I remain skeptical. Maybe it's because I'm becoming an old curmudgeon. But Dobes reminds me of Steve Penny, who became a folk hero to many Montreal fans during the 1983/1984 playoffs. I find Dobes clumsy ( just watch how he tries to smother pucks ) and unathletic. Very similar to Penny, who after a bright start, faded badly. I hope I'm wrong, but to this writer, the future is Fowler, not Dobes. You could even put price and Roy on that boat.

I’m confident for our goaltending going forward. But it’s going to be a blood feud between Dobes, Monty and Fowler. May the best man win. And for those that are looking down on Monty because he was picked on waivers, don’t forget unlike skaters, teams constantly misjudge goalies, that’s why so many all-star goalies have been picked up on waivers. Bryzgalov, Nabokov off the top of my mind. I could find a couple more with a quick google search.I remain skeptical. Maybe it's because I'm becoming an old curmudgeon. Speaking of unathletic, I always found Halak's poor stamina and inability to handle a workload to be a big mark against him even if his reflexes were excellent.I remain skeptical. I was going to post that very sentiment about Volokhin.Dobes is very athletic. That's not a problem at all. Right now the biggest thing for him is to start the game on time and calm his nerves early in games (a young goalie problem) and to be better ready for a quick play on a breakdown. A couple pucks have gotten under his glove as well, so he'll need to shore that spot up.
The future could still be Fowler but don't write Dobes off early, he's got a lot of tools to work with and he's an absolute battler. Volokhin very well could be better than all 3. It's a good problem to have and this organization is not going to jettison Fowler in a trade simply because Dobes is off to a hot start.
Happy to see us win. It seemed whenever the Rangers took the lead, I knew we still had a chance because we were consistently generating scoring chances against them. We weren't very good defensively, but we found a way to win with heightened offense.
This team has different ways of winning games. Our goalies can steal one here or there, our PP can light it up, our top line can produce, or we can get depth scoring from any of our other lines. We don't get everything happening at the same time, but we get enough happening to be competitive against anyone right now.
Funny enough, if you asked me gping in if I'd take 2 points of this weekend I'd say yes. To think we were relatively close to a perfect weekend had Woll not been good or we imploded defensively in the 3rd.Leafs game? what Leafs game?
He got jumped, you just want him to sit there and eat punches to the face the whole time?
He was a smart pick. Said it then say it now.Damn Guhle is becoming quite a General in our D core. Great shut down, good on PK, can help the offense and he hits like a mother f***er. Plays with an edge when the time comes. The sky's the limit in what he can accomplish.
Reminds me of cournoyersooooo true! he could of had a 4-5 goals this weekend alone... so close.. but those game happen. he's been playing incredibly well! a complete kind of player
I strongly disagree with the bolded. I think he has great athleticism and reads the play well. He also projects a lot of poise too. I find the clumsy comment to be somewhat accurate, but given his strong glove hand I think that's probably more nerves than anything.I remain skeptical. I would advocate for cautious pessimism.I strongly disagree with the bolded. I think he has great athleticism and reads the play well. He also projects a lot of poise too. For me it's still too small of a sample size. But.....it's slowly IMO starting to look that way.Dobby their best goalie already?.
