Post-Game Talk: Habs defeat the Panthers in OT

From what I've heard is that they are working with him on that. Essentially it takes time to integrate something like that into your game full time. When you get fatigued especially, you start relying on instincts and reflexes, so things like this that aren't fully ingrained yet will fall away the deeper into the game you get.. or in Monty's case, the fatigue he has from playing way too many games in the past few weeks.
Lol, he's 28. Is he going to integrate find the puck into his game, when he's 40?

So Savard is a -10 and Xhekaj a -13 on the year having been paired together for most of the year.

Struble is a -2 on the year and while being paired with Savard for the last 2 games he's still a minus 2 as is Savard in 2 tight wins.

So is the issue Xhekaj or Struble or is it that St-Louis has a hate on for Xhekaj type players and a love affair for his fellow Montreal native. The common denominator here is Savard.

He's very difficult to play with because his mobility is awful and is always behind the play.

Give Xhekaj a chance to play with a stable D partner and watch him develop, in fact anytime he has been paired with someone that can keep up he's played his best hockey.

There is no team in the NHL that would dress Savard ahead of Xhejak, only in Montreal to appease the french populus !
Total bullshit

Don't get me started on Monty and his 899 save %. He may be the worst "number 1" goalie in the league, bottom 5 for sure!
League average goaltending isn't even close to what it was 10 years ago, Monty is an OK workhorse and transition goalie, the amount of defensive break downs and grade A chances the team tend to give their oponent isn't gonna help his stats either, I'm sure he'd have way better stats on the Kings or Caps, for example.

28 isn't that old for goalies.. he's gonna have to get it into his game through the off-season and bring it from game 1 next year. But there is also a critical point for some guys where they stop getting better.

I'm not of the belief that Monty is part of the team when it matters.

I dont disagree, its the regularity of the in game chronic brain farts .Yes he makes big saves but the lack of consistency coupled with his exaggerated movements that put him out of position drives me nuts

Yeah it can be infuriating to watch sometimes especially after being spoiled by Price for a decade+, I can't wait for Fowler

He's a stop gap til Fowler is ready but is not a real number 1

I still can't believe the shot Matheson took on Monty
Could you imagine if that shot goes in? HF Habs would've gone nuclear. That would've sealed the game, and the hate Matheson would've got by the media and fanbase probably would've killed the team vibes and the season. Crazy.

Heck, if Suzuki didn't save the day we'd all be talking about Matheson, the amount of brain farts he had in the last 2 min was mind altering

I know Matheson has had his struggles all year, but coming off of the 4 nations break, he was playing very well. During that losing streak though, he's been absolutely terrible. I don't think he's handling the pressure of these big games to well. If the boys make it to the dance, Matheson will surely be an adventure ever shift.

We are going to remember this game for a long time. What the Habs executed with 20 seconds left with a faceoff not in the opposing zone is the equivalent of executing a hail Mary in football.

For me, it's a once every 25 year kind of event to have such a late faceoff outside the zone and to tie the game.

The last time the Habs did something similar was in Tampa on a goal scored by Doug Gilmour. Which would have been around 2001 or 2002.

He’s an average goalie and has flaws. He’s never going to be Price.

But the criticism is over the top. As soon as he lets in a goal people are all over him.

Welcome to having average goaltending. This is what it looks like.

The moment he gives up a goal it's "Oh look it's Montemblow!!!" It's dumb man.

I'm not sitting here saying he's Price and I'm not saying he doesn't give up bad goals. That's what average goalies do. But it's over the top here.

Not suprising though. We had people who used to crap on Price for Pete's sake.
Monty has only 2 regulation losses in his last 14 starts. All critical games on the 2nd youngest team in the NHL that nobody expected to be even close to holding a playoff spot in April.

Making this more odd is that he outperformed Jake Allen for two years to earn the starter role. He plays in a fishbowl market and has had next to no relief to spell him off this year because Primeau had major confidence issues and Dobes doesn't even know where his net is and has been lit up like a Christmas trees ever since NHL teams figured him out. Monty was one of three goalies selected for Team Canada in the 4-nations Cup, makes only ~$3m per season, and battles back in games when we fall behind to get us points in the standings.

The lack of respect is odd even for HF boards standards. And yes...I certainly remember the masses crapping on Price.
