Post-Game Talk: Habs defeat the Panthers in OT

Man I had a whole post loaded in the GDT ready to light up some of our guys. So many guys had brutal games and I was so mad.

None of that matters right now. Stunned. What a minute (of play) of hockey. Holy shit.

Nick is god.
I had the remote control in my hand when they gained puck possession in their own end and started heading up ice with 16 seconds left. I figured there was no way the Habs were scoring then. Thankfully, I didn't hit that button and turn the game off.

Best game ending I can remember in a long time.

I’ve stopped reading the GDT the last few games and the narrative on these boards compared to what i watched is night and day.

The GDT last night was so negative when I read it at night, but I thought the habs played an excellent game against one of the best teams in the league.

Everyone got way to used to catasrophizing under MB
I don't participate in the GDT for two reasons.

1) I want to watch the whole game and if I'm busy typing or reading some bullshit I know I'll miss some action
2) The GDT is where Hab fans get lost in the dark side. I'd rather the force be with me and my team.

Yup, I thought they played a great game, and Slafkovsky played fine. People get over hyped on a shift by shift basis. It's a live reaction, too though.

I really thought they were going to lose after the icing. Suzuki loses the draw, too. Barkov gets a shot & who's back to corral the puck? Slafkovsky.

Hutson & Suzuki both take off. Slafkovsky outlets to Hutson from behind our net, which is hilarious because it should be the other way around. But, it was a great pass & started the rush.

The team worked hard & struggled at times getting through the neutral zone. But, ultimately, they got it done. In a most unbelievable way, too.

Things actually felt grim to me after the end of the second. Add to it the odd man chances that Vanacek shut down, it felt like it would be a depressing loss. I literally was getting up, putting my cup in the sink after that icing. I had the remote in hand ready to turn off at the end of the game but watched the tying goal unfold.

My hope is we can ride this high and momentum for the next few games. We still got a lot of heat behind us. Heck, i know its 5 points and 8 games to go but I’m still keeping an eye on the Islanders. Not concerned about strength of schedule now… let’s just win our games.

Yeah, Florida was really shutting down the neutral zone on us, and we were trying to force plays. We like to play with speed & Florida did a good job shutting that down.

Oddly, the icing helped because it forced Florida players out of the neutral zone & into our zone. Hutson was able to get through on a rush & fortunately one was all we needed.

Suzuki ate Reinhart alive on both the tying goal & the OT game winner.

Actually, 2nd youngest team.

It is kind of insane how much criticism Slafkovsky gets. Kid just turned 21 and is playing against the top players in the NHL every night.

He works the boards at both ends of the ice, and often comes deep to help out his D. He & Suzuki will switch up in the D zone depending on who gets back 1st.

He wins board battles in the offensive zone and often causes turnovers by other teams. He's playing in the hard areas at both ends.

The Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky line is like a top 5 line in all of hockey. Lol
To be fair, he did have a bad game last night. I agree he gets way too much piled on (and it's only gonna get worse with his contract kicking in next year) but Marty even sat him for a shift in the 3rd for Newhook.

Yeah but didn't you see, after scoring 15 goals in 5 game he was held pointless for TWO whole game and had a turnover. Should have drafted Michkov.

Lidstrom was skinny as a stick with zero physicality… but his hockey IQ was off the charts.

As Max Lapierre said last night, Carbo would chew him out for not forechecking hard on Lidstrom using his body, to which he replied “Lidstrom saw me coming 60-seconds before I even showed up near him)”.

Like Lidstrom, Hutson is all about elite skate & stick positioning

I’m very curious to see how Hutson handles physically playoff targeting because he will be THE prime target before face offs, after play stops etc

Slaf gets way too much heat for a young kid.

The criticism of Monty lately is intolerable. He plays behind a young team at the most pressured position and in the most pressured market. He didn't allow a single goal by a Florida shooter and made some huge saves when it was 2-1. Anyone criticizing him for the goal that Evans tipped is either completely clueless or just needs a whipping boy to feel better out themselves. He was going in the direction of the shot. Evans also took an unnecessary beating. Anyone who ever played the game has put a few pucks in their own net. Sometimes our instincts take over in a split second and shit happens.

Newhook's been one of our better forwards down the stretch, works is ass off, and is miscast on the 2nd line but takes a massive beating in here. People need to leave the kid alone! Nobody else in the organization is ready to step in that position. He'll be on the 3rd line next year where he should be when we add a center and Demidov.

It is usually better between the periods. Balanced takes are hard to come by live.

Florida were just as lucky as we were. Montembeault could just as easily have had a blank sheet.
These things work themselves out over the course of a season just not usuallly in the same game. :amazed:
People here are so hard with Montembeault. 2 deflected goals by his own team players and he's under average goalie.

This was the kind of win that rallies the team for the remainder of the season

Feeling very good about our playoffs chances today

I wonder if Caufield's latest scoring slump is him no longer having that extra jump or just the tight checking we see at this time of the year limiting his chances. We rarely see him have games with 4 or more shots lately
Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s dealing with a minor injury. We’ve seen CC in the playoffs and he shows up to play!
