Which hockey mind here can explain why Habs are so good lately? Like gameplay change? Is it the speed? The laine energy surge? Better defensively with Carrier? MSL gameplan finally getting through players head?
Better defensively (and offensively) with Carrier replacing Barron, who was AHL caliber.

And then add Laine.. everyone could focus on one line before. They can't now, especially since Newhook and Dach have found their games.

He's definitely slowed down, but he's still a quality pker & a f***ing beast along the boards. He's been good for us since being relegated to #5 role. He's helped settle down Xhekaj, too.

It's gonna be handy come playoff time, if we get there. That's the kind of cat that bring it when it's important. Those old worned down warriors like Savard and Armia.

And yet he's been effective. He'll get 3.5 for 6 years probably. With the new cap that's like 2.5 back in the day for probably the best fourth line C in the league

Oh sure. All I was saying is that the offensive game has dried up big time so no rush to sign him based on offensive explosion alone. Probably will end around 35 pts. He's worth that 3-3.5m on defensive play though. Especially with Dvorak's 4.45m finally coming off the books.

Carrier stabilizing the 2nd pairing, and Matheson cutting down his turnovers/fumbles for sure helps but I would actually say it's communication. They are able to hand off coverage very well which allows players to really pressure the other team and cause turnovers. In the beginning of the year that wasn't happening well at all, either the a player would leave his man without a proper handover leaving someone wide open in a scoring position, or the handover would take several seconds which often meant it was too late to cause a turnover.
