Post-Game Talk: Habs defeat Sabres in OT

It’s a sum of all parts roster construction, rolling 4-lines / 3D pairings has always been HuGo & MSLs strategy…. except this year they haven’t had to deal with historic games missed due to injuries, and they’ve finally got a backup G who can be slotted in 30-40% of the time

It was an ugly win. Good 1st. Real bad 2nd. Even worse 3rd.
But it's a win and it's not making the decision easy for our gm.
Realistically, we are not really a playoffs team and it showed tonight. But if we are 1 pt away of the WC come the trade deadline I would be pissed if we sold. But then again, maybe selling is the thing to do no matter what. I'm glad I'm not the GM :)
History has clearly shown me that you can't necessarily say that regular season and playoffs share the same type of game. Remember that covid year where we wouldn't smell playoffs otherwise and somehow we made the Stanley cup playoffs?

Regular season is fun, but it's completely meaningless when you make the playoffs. Every day I come here and people still don't know what kind of team we have. How would you know what kind of team we have in the playoffs? The only way to find out is getting there. I don't care how they do it, just get in.

meh a 3 lose in a row pretty much kicks them back off. The second a team stops suzuki line we lose. also id rather trade the first picks if we draft around 10-15. Get a real second center and find a dman somewhere
When was the last time the Habs drafted a bona fide 1st line centre bro? Basically none of us were born.

Forget the draft. I'd rather they just trade 2 1st and 2 2nds for that first line center.

Get Tage Thomson from the Sabres for that. Problem solved for the next 15 years.

Never in the entire glorious history of the org - none of Newsy Lalonde, Le Gros Bill, Pocket Rocket, Lemaire were “drafted”

I judge prospects based on their names and height/weight, but he's right.

Just like geology as a science field, collumology remains the underrated, underappreciated, but backbone of accurate historical data on sports and hockey performance, with predictive value.

As the scouting community keeps reminding us, the neck is king.

MB should’ve done that in 2020 offseason, Buf was rumored ready to deal Thompson for a mid rounder …

I don't see why the sabres would make Thompson available for a trade

The tying goal was an example of the failure of the man-to-man defensive system. Evans is covering Dahlin and for some reason thinks Nick will switch with him after he fakes the back pass. Then Dahlin has a clear shot on net.

Sure it wasn’t pretty, but my goodness people complain a lot here after a victory.

Yes, they blew a 3 goal lead. So did Washington last night, a Stanley Cup contender sitting top in the conference.

Yes, they blew a multi goal lead against a bottom feeder. So did Toronto last night, a Stanley Cup contender sitting top in the division, blowing a 2 goal 3rd period lead against THE worst team in the league.

And lots of complaints about coaching here. Sure, the team let up but they are playing over their heads, and battled when it mattered.

And they did that without anything close to a 2C and without Guhle, their best defensive defenceman.

I love the comment from Gallagher about how much fun it is for them to be playing meaningful games this late in the season. Very few people expected them to be there. So while I still think the odds are against them making the playoffs mostly because there are simply too many teams chasing too few spots, I’m enjoying this while it lasts.

You didn't watch the game, did you? The Habs slept for 40 minutes of that game after a great first 20. They did f*** all for two periods. Nothing.

That’s part of the development process that only experience playing in March/April in meaningful games can teach…

I didn’t say he was the only reason but you really think if he was hurt and we had to start Jake Allen against the Leafs that the "Big 4" on D would have been enough

Price had a .932 SV% against Toronto that series and faced 33 shots a game. A .945 SV% in the 3 straight wins to beat them.
That was my Stanley Cup beating the Leafs.

There was tons of penalties, I don’t think Beck plays special teams. That will limit his minutes.

5 wins streak.

1 win against the Sharks on 3 vs 3 pond hockey
2 wins against Buffalo with one of them in a 3 vs 3 pond hockey.

Easy shit opponents will put us in no mans land. Easy schedule will f*** us over.

- Sharks just beat the Leafs

- Sabres were 7-4 coming into our back to back.

- To start the win Streak we beat the Decils amd the Sens.

-Now we get the Oilers who are something like 3-5-1 in their last 10.

And exactly how well have the Sabres fared with Thomson in their line-up? With Eichel?
