I just want to say how everyone here seems to take for granted just how amazing Cole Caufield is. No one seems to be talking about him in this thread or many others because everyone EXPECTS that type of play and contribution from him, we know what we have in Caufield and that is a legit sniper/goal scorer.

When he took that shot, you all KNEW it was going in...

I have watched Dobes play every AHL start and after Christmas last season he was as good as any Goalie in the AHL. Folks kept glossing over him and talking about Fowler (who is a great prospect) and i kept telling people not to write him off. In Laval he showed athleticism, fiestiness and solid puck handling skills. Can he keep this up? I don't know but one thing is for sure...I would not bet against him.

He blew up in Colorado. Fans are acting like we traded away the player that was in Colorado.

He was a 3rd line winger in Montreal and we got a decent return for him all things considered.

Sure we lost that trade but for the past few years all I'm reading is that we traded away a 1st liner for nothing.

Sucks for us that he reached new heights if anything I blame the Bergevin regime for not exploring his talent further.
They did not lose the trade. Just using the 2nd in order to get hage won them the trade. And how Barron turned out is irrrlevant since they were able to move him for Carrier.

I think at this point, Caufield needs to remain at the top of the stats sheet in April to be recognized at his full value, both by Habs fans and Team USA

I'm far more impressed by his complete game. He's not only scoring, he's taking what the game gives him; Doing everything that needs to be done to help the team.

Like he said, he's just playing an honest game. The whole team is.

Except for Slaf.

Of course but a lot of fans don't see it like that so I kept it simple lol. This trade is far from being done. Those deals take years to find a clear cut winner.

I was just reading the other day that we acquired Laine via the Halak trade tree. 15 years later and that trade is still paying dividend.

Disagree. The team is completely different since his acquisition. They needed someone steady and to have a reliable pairing to counter the Matheson/Hutson pairing. Great trade and a very good player.

It's hard for some to realize what an individual can do for the collective when put in the right situation.
While I'm surprised the effect has turned out to be as dramatic as it is I definitely expected a far better balanced back end.
You’re speaking over each other a bit.

Carrier is not a particularly good player. He is better than Barron and Savard. His acquisition pushed Barron out of the lineup but also slotted Carrier above Savard and pushed Savard to Barron’s old TOI role, to which Savard is better suited. Is Carrier a special player? No, but he is better than Savard and he fits better too.

Primeau’s replacement turned out to be better than Primeau and in competition with Monty — so the same effect as above.

Struble is the next marginal player to need improvement/replacement. If the player that pushes Struble out of the roster then competes with Xhekaj, Savard, and Carrier, we’ll enjoy the same effect.

Les Boys played an excellent road game and kept the Avalanche stymied throughout. Dobes “I swear I’m not Hal Gill” played great again, while I thought Carrier and Hutson were great on the back end. That backhanded pass that Hutson laid right on the tape to Suzuki was a thing of beauty. Great to see Caufield continue scoring while

Dach had a nice goal in the shootout and played well. Almost like he’s beginning to round into form, after suffering a serious injury or something.

Mike Matheson, for all I’ve shit on him by times, played almost 29 minutes and was a plus 1. That’s a pretty solid effort from a guy who gets pilloried here quite often. I gotta give credit if I’m going to criticize and Double M played great tonight.

Nice to see Pezz get into another game but for chrissakes Marty, let the guy play. 4 and a half minutes isn’t enough to need a shower.

It's still very early days on Dobes' pro career, but I am absolutely blown-away by the confidence and poise that he's shown so far.

Dobes won't be that good every game, but maybe we've got something in the big leagues with him.
He doesn't look like someone who is only 2 games into his NHL career. His positioning and poise really stands out to me. Just look at how calm and focused he was in the shootout. He out waited Rantanen and didn't flinch.

Very Perry like. Slow, smart and hard. This season Armia is worth his contract.
Going down to Laval was a blessing as Armia seemed to rediscover his game since. He looked much better after getting called up last season and that has carried into this season.

Armia and Anderosn both deserved props for embracing their roles on the team and doing an effective job with them. I still wish Anderson was a bit cheaper but he has found ways asides from scoring to help the team.

Agreed. If he can't even be trusted in a 4th line role when someone is injured, there's no reason he should take up a roster spot. He's probably a great guy who doesn't complain, but when someone like Laine is out you need someone who could theoretically contribute something.
The habs lack depth. Waiving Pez would mean they need to call up someone from Laval to sit. If they could replace Laine the team would have won more games earlier in the season.

I guess we got to ask ourselves if we're pushing for wild card what kind of deal is Kent going to do to build his team
Nothing better than making trades and destroying chemistry lol. In saying that if we can trade Newhook for a capable winger that would be great
