So I has a question. Were Habs playing deferent defense system last season? Other than Hutson and Heineman it's the same cast of characters. Why all the talk about how they need to "learn" to play MSLs system this season? Are they THAT slow that they forget over summer and have to learn hockey every new season?

I believe they were playing zone defense last season and are playing hybrid this season.

Weird statement when we've had 12 goals in the last 3 games... If you said this 3 games ago, sure. But right now it's a weird statement.

For one, it was sarcasm.

Secondly, look who Habs scored their goals against. Buffalo and Columbus. While they need to beat these teams, they scored their goals on weaker opponents. What happened after Habs scored 7 in Buffalo? They got shut out in Minnesota. They scored 5 against Columbus, but their next opponents are Edmonton and Vegas.

We'll see if their goal scoring continues or if it's like every time they light up an opponent, the following game or two, they struggle to create offensively.

I think this year, they're implementing a hybrid style. So it's almost like they need to re-learn the system because they now have to know when to go man-to-man and when to play zone. Matheson at the golf tournament said in an interview that they spoke with the coaching staff and they plan to play a different defensive game. Maybe Grillo has something to do with that, as well?

I do feel like they are "protecting the house" more, trying to get into lanes to block shots and try to get to loose pucks. Not always successful as we can see. But I guess there is some kind of readjustment to a new way to defend.

Ever since MSL is head coach, Habs have played a man-to-man system. They never played zone defense. This is why they look like chickens without their heads when the other team gets a successful cycle going. Because they're chasing their man.

This year it seems to be a hybrid. And as I mentioned above, they probably need to readjust to know when to play which system and what point in the game.

I agree. I won't complain if they beat weaker teams. A win is a win. But they do need to beat stronger teams, too. Or at the very least, be able to hold their own even if they lose.

Their loss in New Jersey is what I want to see. They never gave up and had energy in that game. Unfortunately, they followed that up with a stinker in Toronto.

Says a lot about the lack of character we appear to have, we just fold when the chips are down and they don't seem to get up for games against good teams. Defeatist attitudes in the locker room? I've been impressed with Gallagher and Andy this year, they compete hard even if they aren't finishing a lot of plays. Then I watch Dvorak, Armia, Dach and I have to check the highlights to see if they actually played.

Is this a country club atmosphere? You can't tell me a guy like Roy isn't chewing out asses and demanding 110% every night. I don't see this with MSL. I can't wait until Beck, Tuch and Florian make this team, kids that give a shit

Is there another game tonight?
Not till Monday, McJesus is in town. Nurse is currently on another planet thanks to Reavees, go check out the hit he got to the mellon.

Wtf are you talking about? Did you watch the first goal of the Minnesota game?

Dvorak is the first guy that needs to gtfo this team.
If we traded Dvorak and kept a Monahan we wouldn’t have Hage. It’s not that hard to understand. I’d rather have the 18 year old NCAA PPG centre.

I don’t. The ‘others’ will be gone in a couple of years. They don’t count. The core does.

Plus, the kid lost all focus. MSL let him settle down a notch or five. He came back after and still played, what, 17 minutes?
The "core" includes Dach who needs to learn a lesson more than Slaf. But no, he still gets chance after chance after chance

He's a good player when he's focused.
He needs to think better consistently and recognize to k ow certain things, like cross ice passes in his own zone when under pressure as he invariably never sees the guy about go intercept the pass and go in on a break away. So don't make them, ever, for now.

Because we'd rather rebuild with a country club atmosphere and be in a cycle of failure for the next 10 years? I don't understand why people hate Roy. He demands results, oh no? He's not the same guy he was in Colorado, he's shown that in NY.

Why single him out though? Our entire blueline does this every night and it's business as usual.

I think they have been more focused on defense against stronger teams, and it comes at the price of offense. Against Buffalo and Columbus, the openings were there, as they, too, had more lapses defensively. The shutout loss against the Wild was also a good example of what I am referring to. We played solid defensively save for a few mistakes that ended up as goals with us unable to penetrate a much stronger defensive team. We don't have the center depth to drive the play once teams shut down Suzuki's line.
