Speculation: Habs and Ducks had a 4-piece deal in place for Trevor Zegras

iGuess you haven't seen it, but he is saying that their guy (Hage) is still there, so no trade
There are 30 other teams he could have been talking to. It's entirely possible he switched gears after getting Demidov to targeting a different need, or perhaps was willing to move down if his guy was gone. I could very easily see Chicago and Calgary looking to move up at that point in the draft with Chicago having picks 27 and 32, and the Flames having 28 and 41... Or maybe it was the Oilers who had traded their pick and were looking to move thier 1st in 2025 to get into the 1st round of 2024.

I like Mailloux but he's having his problems.

Zegras is intriguing but at what point do you give up and call him a semi-bust?

At this point Mailloux is worth more. A year from now the spread could be huge in either direction...but more likely for Mailloux.

Would I take him and try to change him? Maybe for a very late 1st or Roy, otherwise forget it.

In August, I reported on Habsolument Fan that the Montreal Canadiens and the Anaheim Ducks had a deal in place at the draft.

The deal was: Trevor Zegras + 2024 2nd round pick for Logan Mailloux + 2024 1st (21st overall).

Someone posted the info in here but all the threads were closed because i'm not a big name reporter. Which is true but I've been doing this for 10+ years now. Been called lots of names from Montreal to Anaheim but I always knew my source was rock solid.

8 months later, Radio-Canada journalist Alexandre Gascon called my informations ''Rigourously true'' and Elliotte Friedman reported the same infos as mine this weekend.

Here was my complete article (in french) if anybody want to know more about this failed deal. I'm told that it's the Habs that ultimately nixed the deal because Ivan Demidov had slide to 5th overall. The Zegras deal was a Plan B in case Demidov was not available and they had to draft a D at 5 (Buium or Dickinson).

They ultimately selected Michael Hage with the 21st ov and the Ducks went and acquired another first rounder (23rd) after they've been told the deal with Montreal was off.

Odd, because Buium is left shot and Mailloux right shot. Habs too many left shot now and too few right shot. Plus Montreal just traded a 2nd to move up to 21.

Prob also speaks to how much Anaheim wanted Solberg, I feel like that solberg pick was the most visibly happy I’ve seen our scouts after a pick

I don't like this trade for either team so I'm pretty sure both teams are glad how it worked out.

Ya doesn’t look great for Anaheim

Especially knowing that solberg was who we were aiming for…. Why would we want mailloux

I’d take Luneau helleson and moore over mailloux

This is pure speculation. Moving on…
