Backs is worth every penny of his contract. His scoring is off this year relative to his career average, but defensively he and his line are still the men to get the job done.I've been following the two former flyers since the trade, periodically watching them when I can. He's struggled the last calendar year, and it's nice to see him get a few. He's got a decent skillset, and can score, particularly at ES. Hopefully he'll continue for the Flames.
I didn't get to watch this game specifically, but I watched the extended highlights. Frost appeared in it quite a bit - showing up with decent passing on the PP and at ES. Given his playmaking abilities, I think he would look good next to Huberdeau or Coronato.
Just curious what this board thinks about Backlund. I recognize he's been with the org for 10-15 years, and is the current captain... But what I've personally seen from him; he seems like he's taken a step or two backwards. My outside perspective is they are playing him at 5v5 too much.
Backlund and Coleman are known as the 'fixers'. Coach Huska can put any struggling player on their line for a more or less instant improvement. The Backlund bump.
Watch him away from the puck. He does all the little things right and instinctively knows where to go on the ice.
If you watched the game last night he and his wingers Farabee and Coleman were not only an offensive threat, but held Caufield, Suziki, and Slafkovsky off the score sheet even if they had a lot of shots. Of course Dustin Wolfe had a pick part of that too.
And rumour has it he had been playing injured a good chunk of games after Christmas and is only now playing like he can.
