lol really? The guy wasn't even punished when it happened on the ice. A normal 2 minutes would have solved it. Current NHL is so authoritarian. I scratch my ass, you have a hearing, sir.

Punishing by using what ifs is dumb. It's like if someone boarded another player and the result of the play is that the player on the receiving end is shaken up. But then, you decide to suspend the guilty party for 50 games because they could have broken the other player's neck. Such a suspension would be reversed because you can't just decide that something worse could have happened.
Yes you can. The result SHOULD be completely irrelevant. All that should matter is that it could have resulted in a serious injury.

I wouldn’t call it “cowardly”, Guhle has shown he has plenty of testicular fortitude. Stupid? Sure. Probably more of an emotional reaction from a guy who’s watching his team battle. It wasn’t much of a slash, I don’t think anything more than a game and a fine is warranted. Just my 0.02$
No we don't punish by injury, but the severity of the force does need to be taken into account.

I think normally this action is at most a fine, but since Guhle was on the bench, two to three games.

A slash from the bench is inexcusable. You’d be irate if somebody did this to one of our guys and deservedly so.

Three games is what he should get. This bush league shit should never happen. I’m disappointed that Guhle would pull this garbage.

I agree with you. I think Guhle has been getting increasingly frustrated how he keeps getting mugged without even a penalty called. Stick to the face, elbow to the face, outright tackles, slew foots, all unpunished. Doesn't justify this however. He will be suspended for sure.

Exactly. 3 games for that is ridiculous. He shouldn't have done it. He should have gotten a penalty, but he obviously wasn't happy with Slafkovsky being taken down like that. Oh, and by the way, where the f*** was the penalty on that play?!

How do the refs look at the mugging and go play on! Chances are high if refs stop play there to call a penalty Guhle doesn't feel the need to retaliate from the bench.

Give him a fine, tell him not to do that again and move on.

I do believe you're right, but the league always suspends guys who do this kind of thing. See Perron, David for what happens when guys take things upon themselves..

1-2 games as it was more just dumb. It fell under more gamesmanship and getting under a players skin more than anything.

we have seen guys play pucks from the bench, hold guys during scrums at benchs, etc

thats more where this was in line with.

Its a slash, relax. Players punch each other on the nose every shift. Hell get a fine or a game, what ever. Theres way worse that happens in the league and this doesnt put the players safety at risk.

Its like when Lucic did a nut shot a few years ago. He got a few games, but I think he got the same amount for full on trucking Miller.

Penalizing on what people consider a moral or cowardly action is dumb. Youre overreacting and I wish youd react like this when a players safety and quality of life was put at risk.

thats the main problem.
Take your blinders off and at least pretend to be something approaching objective.
They are. Its dumb, but 3-4 games and the comments in this thread are quite ironic when some people have literally defended actions that have put the quality of a players life at risk.

That was just a dumb move. He deserves a couple games to marinate on what he's done.
omg you drama queens, he tapped him with his stick and the little nerd made it look like he was hit by a bullet. It was nothing, my god. You guys don't even react this way when our guys are driven face first into the boards , you scream ' he put himself in a bad spot there' lol.

Calm down there, Nancy. Getting upset about a faceless poster's opinion on the internet is like stepping in shit instead of going around it.

1 game max. You can't do that but he barely grazed the guy. I'd be more pissed if someone threw water at me.
Konecny tried to sold that one so hard. But still, you can't do that.

Players takes jumping elbows at 23mph to the face and they barely gets 2 games.

But, you still can't do that.

Guys are defending 30 miles an hour shoulder hits but we want Guhle gone for 3 games because he poked someone in the arm from the bench lol.

Its the department of player safety, not the department of respecting the moral code.

A player on the bench involving themselves with the action on the ice should be a massive no-no so I would have no problem with 3 IMO

Do you have any precedents to back this up with.
Excerpt from Rule 8.4 interference from the bench.
A bench minor and game misconduct will be assessed to any player who commits interference.
A major penalty and a game misconduct at the discretion of the ref for violent acts.

He's definitely getting the game misconduct after the fact but how violent was the act in reality.
