Proposal: [SEA/MTL] Guhle + Calgary 1st for Matty Beniers + 2nd (Toronto)

Here we go!

I know that like every proposal here on this site, it'll be probably too much for one fan base and not enough for the other.

But before making this proposal, I've studied the rosters of every NHL team (as a Habs fan) for the perfect trade match up.

I've noticed that Seattle has some depth at center while being a little shallow in terms of quality LHD.
As much in terms of actual NHL players than prospects.

MTL need a 2nd line center while having depth at LHD.

Beniers and Guhle are two very good young players.
Beniers has more upside and is a center, that's why there's a mid 1st rounder added from Mtl vs a late 2nd coming from Seattle.

Thoughts?

That’s nonsense for Seattle. They don’t exactly have this depth the OP claims at center. Certainly not to trade away a top 6 for a LD. Seattle looks fairly set at D. LD Dunn, Evans and Oleksiak and even on the right side they have Montour and Larsson.

If anything they should consider trying to move the Stephenson contract as they aren’t win now and need to further build around their youth in Beniers, Wright, Kakko, Catton not trade any of them away.

Seattle's issues are not with the D core. It’s a lack of high end skill. Trading a young talented C is the opposite of the moves they need to make.

the same reason Mtl might at all consider trading Guhle (inability to stay healthy) is why it would be a stretch for any team to give up what it would take.

Healthy, Guhle has played at the level of a top 20 #1dman. He's 23 and signed for 6 more years at under 6M$. If he can find a way to stay healthy, he'll become one of the best bargain contracts in the league while giving Mtl one of the better top pair LHD.

Pass for mtl.

Why does Beniers have more upside? Just because he’s a center doesn’t mean he has more upside. Guhle has number one upside. I haven’t watched Beniers very much so I can’t make a judgement on his ceiling, but by just looking at his basic stats, he seems to have plateaued point wise but someone can enlighten me on other aspects of his game. I do know he’s very good defensively, at least in his rookie year

This is the exact player the kraken don’t need - see Vince Dunn and Montour - they need high end forwards

You’ll see Stephenson getting paid 6 mil to
Be a fourth line center before you’ll see the kraken trade matty for a puck moving D.

I’m not really interested in trading Guhle. although Beniers would be interesting he hasn’t produced well after a good first season and is still a question mark offensively

Exactly - it is complete nonsense for Seattle - Berkeley catton is not even NHL ready and this does what for them exactly that they don’t already have. Plus this whole Montreal homer nonsense of guhle being a real top pair defenseman ( aka a complete D or a superstar offensive D) is just out of control…

With the two players only 1 year apart age-wise, will be interesting to see how both look through their peak years.

I’m not sure I care who is the better player today. What’s important is which player will be more impactful going forward and due to skill, availability, ceiling and I’d bet on Beniers even if it might be close.
