If Tanev was coming with Gudbranson...then sure.

Otherwise...pass. Gudbranson is a dinosaur. He would have been great in the 90's and 2000's. Now the game has changed. He can't keep up...and he is grossly overpaid for a defensive dman.

Well seeing that current market price for D-man Tanev is worth more than JVR.

Says who...a bunch of fans on a hockey discussion board?

Let's be honest..it isn't a good fit. Vancouver has no use for JVR since they will soon be hitting the old "full rebuild button". They need futures. He doesn't fit that requirement. Toronto is in year 2 of their rebuild...they aren't going to trade futures for a 3-4 dman just yet. Maybe in the summer or before the expansion draft. But not right now.

This is gross. I wouldn't mind Gudbranson, but not at the expense of JVR.

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: No way. Lou hangs up the phone. How are you a Leafs fan making this, this seems like a delusional Nucks fan.

Have u ever watched him play? His skating is phenomenal especially for being his size.

The Gudbranson hate is ridiculous, not worth JVR perhaps but he doesn't suck. He's a solid 2nd pair DFD. He's a good shutdown guy because his size covers so much ice, I was at our home opener and he gave guys like Gaudreau and Monahan no room to operate in our zone.

He's a player u need in the playoffs, he's still adjusting to a new team, and he can still be better but this ridiculousness needs to stop. Just because your defensive doesn't mean u suck, u need defense to win in the playoffs.

A defensive dman that makes 3.5m is overpaid. His next contract is going to be even bigger because he has leverage with Vancouver. He likely comes in at 4.5-5m long term....which is absolutely ridiculous! But that's what he is going to get. You do need guys like him. But there are lots of guys like him.

And slowly they are being phased out...unless they are cheap. If you don't have offense in your top 4...you are going to have problems.

But he would have been a star 20 years ago. Like Adam Foote.

Gudbranson sucks.

But JVR is INCREDIBLY overrated on most trade proposals.

With that being said, this sucks for Toronto. They need someone like Tanev.

Hard disagree. JVR is a legitimate first line left winger who constantly gets denigrated because he doesn't hit and his defense is mediocre. That's true, sure. But this board is obsessed with the Jonathan Toews archetype when in reality very, very, very few players are proficient on both sides of the puck. I think he's consistently undervalued. Less now though since his contract is expiring.

Speaking as one of a handful of Panthers fans who misses Guds, the value is way off. JVR for Tanev is probably closer.

3.5 million for a defenseman that logs big minutes in your top 4 is not overpaid. If anything that's underpaid in today's NHL actually.

If you haven't noticed, defenseman that can play defense are still needed, you can find defense first defenseman on every team that goes to the finals. They aren't an extinct type of players, they just have to be able to move around the ice nowadays and Gudbranson does that. There are a reason players like Phillip Larsen still have trouble cracking NHL rosters consistently.

He has had a tough time adjusting to Vancouver but there is still potential there.

Vancouver could add to him if its a little too lopsided.

Well he hasn't had a tough time adjusting in Vancouver, he's been playing well. He's been playing the way he was advertised. Something the Canucks needed.

Yet another thread for Leaf fans to collectively pleasure themselves while bashing the Canucks in one way or another.

If Gudbranson is a defensive defenceman, why is he not a good at defence?

Nucks don't need JVR. And he's worth more than Gudbranson.

There simply isn't an acceptable deal between Vancouver and Toronto. The guy they need is Tanev, who will cost them one of the Big 3 and they, understandably, don't want to pay that price

I tell you what...you know one of the reasons Gudbranson is skating in Vancouver's top 4.....it's because they aren't very good. He leads the team with a -13. That's not exactly a solid endorsement for your argument.

Last year in Florida...Ekblad +18, Campbell +31, Petrovic +17, Kulikov +8......Gudbranson +3.

So where is the value?

The guy who made Gudbranson expendable...Alex Petrovic...1m salary. That's value.

Toronto is top 6 GF and bottom 5 GA.

Trade some offense for a defensive defenseman? Nah. Toronto doesn't need any help in that department.

No doubt they need an upgrade on D...but lots of time to do it. There is no pressure this year to make the playoffs. Let the kids develop and see what happens.

A lot of their GA came in October because Andersen was hurt and Enroth sucks, November they are greatly improved as their 8-5-1 record shows.

Gudbranson just doesn't hold the value that his contract will require.
