You’d think that a league that’s trying to be taken seriously would have a playoff format where the top teams at the end of regular season would not meet each other in the 1st round.
Not easy to do when 10 of the top 12 ranked teams were from the east. You’d think that a league that’s trying to be taken seriously would have a playoff format where the top teams at the end of regular season would not meet each other in the 1st round.
9 of 12 and 8 out of 9 of those teams looked like shit this postseason. Not easy to do when 10 of the top 12 ranked teams were from the east.

and the top regular season team in the NHL got swept by a team from the worst division lol, in which none of the Pacific teams would of even made the playoffs in the east.9 of 12 and 8 out of 9 of those teams looked like shit this postseason.
Since they moved to these divisions...each division has made the Conference Finals(I only looked at the ECF bc well....time) every single year. Yeah...really dumb. Not only is this a dumb thing to complain about, but it’s not even technically true.
The ECF could very well have been Montreal-Ottawa.
Except that it's never happened...at least on the EASTERN side...zero %...basically you'd be dropping the 8th over to the other side.Actually not true, it’s not a GUARANTEE, as when 5 teams make it from one division, one team crosses over, it’s possible to end up with 2 teams from one division in conference final.

Very well? Since it's happened 0%...yeah...very well...what does that equal out in actual odds of happening? Right now it is zero %.
Dumb? Very well! LOLOLOLOL
Nice you agree then it’s not a GUARANTEE, we can all move on .Except that it's never happened...at least on the EASTERN side...zero %...basically you'd be dropping the 8th over to the other side.
SMDH. Come on...GMAFB...
Yeah but haven't you thought about how unfair it is that big market teams don't get preferential treatment?!It’s remarkable how much energy there is behind the idea that certain teams should be given automatic passes to the later rounds.
Counterpoint: if you want to be in the CF, win your ****ing games and get there on merit.
Sorry...but my point remains that Bettman artificially created a playoff bracket where right now...100% of the time each division will be represented in the conference finals. My argument is simple...go back to 1-8 with only reg season division winners getting the first 2 slots. After that...by record. Is that too much to ask?Nice you agree then it’s not a GUARANTEE, we can all move on .

just out of curiosity...what other sport does this? Some want divisional format back
Some want 1-8 with top team in each division 1-2 seeding
Current format is a hybrid of the 2 with the 2/3 divisional teams playing each other.
Then you get 1v8 and 2v7.
Unfortunately can’t make everyone happy, no matter which of the 3 it is.
And after 8 team are elimaneted it should be 8 best teams remaining. Of course all top seeds doesn't make it and I don't think anyone is saying they should. If the 8th seed upsets yhe 1st seed they were in fact the better team. If you think it's good that 7th or 8th seed in the east was guaranteed to make it to the 2nd round is up to you. I don't think a lot of people would agree with you. There's no way around the fact that 8 teams are going to be bounced in the first round .
Upsets happen so there are no guarantees a top seed makes it past second round.
And the RS is irrelevant to the PO. It's merely a money making shtick. Trying to justify it via PO set ups isn't going to justify an 82 game schedule when a 30 game schedule can accomplish the same thing re: seeding
So Pacific > East.and the top regular season team in the NHL got swept by a team from the worst division lol, in which none of the Pacific teams would of even made the playoffs in the east.
1-16 would be cool. I know the travel would never permit it though.
Rarely has it ever been the first and second seed in the finals or the top 4 in the CF so my point is the system they use is ultimately irrelevant. And after 8 team are elimaneted it should be 8 best teams remaining. It's ultimately irrelevant because of my aforementioned point: the PO are short series and as such more randomness is at play so seeding isn't a guarantee of PO success. And I was also speaking to the 82 gsmes, the excessive length of the schedule not the RS per se. Trying to create a PO system to justify the six month season is a lost cause as there is absolutely nothing that can justify it.Of course the is a money making aspect to the regular season but to say it's irrelevant to playoffs is complete nonsense to me. If that was the case why not use a lottery system to see who makes the PO and the seedings.
The scenario I used literally happened this year. But it's okay if you think this system is good. I was just answering someone asking why people are complaining about it.You and others are m seeking scenarios thst are just highly unlikely regardless of whst system they use
They did it in 1980 and 1981, the Rangers and Kings even played a 1st round series. I can't imagine it actually happening nowadays either though, which is a shame.
