I wish the leaugue would reduce the number of games so that there's no games on back to back days. The quality of the product suffers too much when players are worn down and never get a day to practice.

Canucks:
-were, at one point in time, were the front runner for Guentzel
-if Tampa doesn't clear cap space, Guentzel ends up in Vancouver

It works but unless Joshua is back soon, that puts them at 21/23 with a 0.09m under the cap. At that point you aren't actually gaining any significant capspace through accrual. Might as well just go on LTIR and run with a full roster.

I assume that's the plan and probably shuttle Raty back and forth from Abbotsford. As you said, not sure how else they do it. I doubt they trade Poolman at this stage, and they've constantly maintained they have mechanics to stay out of LTIR. Joshua probably isn't out that long.

I don't disagree and the healthy roster is in-line with how I figured it would roll out. What confuses me a bit is how Aman is viewed as a centre given he can't win face-offs and Suter is pretty bad at them as well. Raty is a big improvement over both of them while also bringing right-handed face-off ability. If Raty isn't getting into the line-up regularly, then it doesn't make much sense to keep him on the roster. Same goes for Bains.

He may not be good at face-offs but he's good at positioning, plays at pace, makes a lot of his checks and shows some upside offence skill, although it hasn't transferred into points as of yet. As I recall Allvin conjured him up out of nothing.

Being so tight against he cap we don't have many other $825,000 options sitting in our lap. Who else is there, Karlsson?

This is probably a dumb question but if we don't LTIR Poolman's contract does he count against our 23 man roster?

Disappointed to see PDG waived. I thought he played well enough during the pre-season to earn a spot, Aman, not so much. And if they've got Raty behind him on the depth chart I'm not sure if Tocchet is watching the same team.

no, they can just IR him and while his contract will count against the cap he won't take up a roster spot

If they can’t be under and have Raty and Aman on the roster. They could have Raty and a 21-man roster and shuttle him back and forth. That’s assuming they go with 7 defencemen. Could cut both Juulsen and Friedman but that seems crazy.

They won't cut both defensemen. I'm guessing you're assuming Bains is sent down in this scenario, though he's currently skating on the fourth line in practice. Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what they'll do. Easiest would be to send down Raty and Bains, and carry Aman and one of the d-men.

Yup, exactly the last scenario. Path of least resistance.

Barring a trade between now and next week, the way the roster currently sits I'm expecting Raty to be sent down to start the season and for us to carry 8 Dmen again. If Suter is banged up and they want a winger keeping Bains makes sense and then once Suter is back they can flip-flop Bains for Raty. I think that's the preferred method rather than lose one of Juulsen or Friedman.

I hate cutting Wolanin and Kudryavtsev in favour of Forbort right now, makes players feel like spots are pre-determined and there’s no point competing.

Did Wolanin even outplay Forbort? If he did it was minimal, and it's obvious Forbort is here to be a PK specialist.

Kud showed well but wasn't a slam dunk for a roster spot. It's probably a wise move for his development for him to start in the AHL and reevaluate later.

Also I doubt Forbort's spot on the team is set in stone. If he doesn't perform we have a bunch of other guys including the two we're discussing here that bump him out.

all the roster talk is academic until hirose recovers enough to be sent down. they can't ice a cap compliant roster with poolman, hirose, joshua and demko on ir

Both were very obviously better at ES but yes Forbort can apparently pk. I assume they don’t want Hughes and Hronek pk’ing this year.
