Soucy has played 287 out of 371 games since establishing himself as an NHLer. Mostly due to him missing 42 games last season and 18 in 21/22.

One lingering question is: are they going to try to keep Poolman's contract within the cap, or give in to LTIR, or bite the bullet and ditch another asset to move it? Joshua's health situation and Demko's made it so that the first of those options seems pretty tough to manage.

Let's discuss Demko-for-Swayman as a concept.

If the Canucks have the success that they wish they have with Demko—he's going to get Swayman money (plus more) anyways by 2026-27.

Or, if you don't have certainty in Demko's health and his availability for when the games really matter—it's better to cut bait now rather than go into each TDL and playoffs with uncertainty.

Didn't really move the needle for me.

His legs are gone. Watching him try and track the play back defensively was painful. Or get in quickly on the forecheck.

He'll probably be a helpful player in Abbotsford and if his legs get some zip back in them with consistent game action at that level the team can re-evaluate but this is 100% the right call.

I wonder if Boston would be willing to do a Juulsen for Wotherspoon trade. Boston’s left side is pretty set but they could use a depth RHD considering Peeke is injury prone/healthy scratch material.

Wotherspoon would be a nice physical stay at home 6/7 D and can be insurance if and when Forbort inevitably becomes unplayable.

I doubt the team moves Juulsen, from everything that’s been said it seems like management and the coaching staff really really like the player.

For anyone curious like I was, opening day rosters have to be submitted by Monday, Oct 7th, 2pm PST.
porbbaly by mid october we'll see a trade involving vancouver somehow. its happened the last 3 yrs.

Oct 8, 2023: Vancouver trades a 2024 5th round pick to Toronto for Sam Lafferty similar to this. but getting a defenseman?

I doubt the Vancouver Canucks have the pieces to land Swayman & in the same bind i signing him long term like Boston is

Whether they have the pieces likely depends on what Boston is looking for. If they want to sacrifice immediate goaltending for futures—there is no way that Vancouver could compete against Anaheim or Detroit, etc.

But if Boston is looking for a goaltender equally as competent then there are few other teams that could offer a goaltender of Demko’s standard. The bigger question/blocker is whether Boston (or Vancouver) has faith that his body will hold-up.

And on your second point—signing Swayman now will likely be cheaper than signing a healthy Demko in two-years time. That might need to be something you consider ahead of re-signing Quinn Hughes.

oh ok, Raty definitely made the team then. McWard was there?

McWard is recovering from a minor procedure, was still on the roster. Him being sent down is a good sign he isn't too far behind as the Canucks would have had to keep him up on their roster if he was not cleared to play.

I want to say McWard was hurt...not sure.

Cuts are as expected I think except maybe PDG. I didn't think he should make the team but sometimes that old boy thing happens.
