How much do you think Rantanen is going to get?
Report saying he’s looking for 13M. I imagine CBJ, SJS and CHI can offer that.

Joshua - Miller - Boeser
Debrusk - Petey - Rantanen
Sherwood - Raty - Lekk
Heinen - Bluegar - Sasson

Hughes - Hronek
Soucy - Willander
DPetey - Myers

Demko
Lankinen

The math actually works lol

Rantanen really would be the ideal linemate for Petey, they would destroy.

The lineup I listed also has like around 9-10M in cap left even after factoring 13 for Rantanen and 8 for Boeser
Interesting, pretty good spot to be in. Might be worth holding onto Garland then, or just shelling it all out to bolster the D.

That Jiricek deal seems odd from the Thrashers...er... Blue Jackets end. I thought they weren't going for futures? If they are, Minnesota's 1st round pick as it stands is one of the more unattractive ones. Nothing wrong with Hunt being a target but he's not worth much.

With that said, would I like the Canucks to match that package from a draft picks standpoint? Not really. I like Jiricek's potential but he does have bust potential at this point.

IMO the Canucks could have matched that for potential top pairing RHD large dman and should have.
The Wild just got gifted a star and with their cap hit this year, 15 mil in dead cap space they get back next year, they have constructed a true contender.

CLB get a load of trade assets in return.

This puts enormous pressure for Willander to be better than Jiricek, in this market that won't be forgotten by all

Dahli will be certain to give the Canucks a pass, "a price they were not prepared to pay". Same as Zadorov's departure.

Well this one gone so be prepared to sell lots of assets for another temporary bandaid.

We really need Demko back. Cannot afford not to use a back up much longer. This team hasn't had the toughest schedule to date but it ramps up considerably.(as does everyone's) Currently we have played the least amount of games in the league which means a few days other teams are getting breaks that we aren't going forward.

Canucks have 11 multiday breaks the rest of the year.

8- 2 days
1- 3 day
Christmas - 4 day
February 4 Nations - 13 days

2 games here to finish off road trip then first 2-day.

10 games in 18 days to Christmas: This sees the canucks on a 6game home stand against many solid opponents. Then a two day back to back road trip through Vegas and Utah. Then two more before break.

1 game then 2-day: This one is a 12pm local home game against Seattle. Out of the break. will probably be a sloppy one.

3 in 4 then 2-day break: This is 3 games in 3 different cities. Calgary and Seattle again. After getting back to play final game in Vancouver, team will likely have one day off before a travel day back east.

4 games in 6 nights before next 2-day break: This is the main portion of a 5 game road trip. three of the four are against high end eastern conference teams.

3 games before next 2-day: We complete the roadtrip with a game against Winnipeg before coming home to play two big divisional games against Edmonton and Los Angeles.

10 games every other day until the February 4 Nations: This part of the schedule sees us having the quick one road game sandwiched between home games scenario twice. It also sees the team having a three game central road trip.

2 games back to back before 2-day break: This is part of a 5 game road trip. these first two games see us playing Vegas and Utah.

3 games in 4 nights before our only 3-day break: We then complete the road trip playing the kings and ducks back to back before capping the trip against Seattle.

5 games in 8 nights before 2-day break: Home for 7 of 8 games while sneaking in a second half of a back to back in Calgary Calgary.

9 game stretch before 2-day break: We come out of the two day break with back to back home games before finishing our home stand against the Jets. We then make our way slowly East and then back against on a 6 game road trip.

1 game then another 2-day break: This portion gives us a decent rest before the final push to the playoffs. We come home for a three game home stand. This sees us play Seattle again.

7 games to end the season: We play a back to back at home to start this portion before playing every other day the rest of the way. go on the road for our last two road games before a 3 game home stand to finish.

On the plus side they’ve had a lot of practice time early in the year to iron out kinks with their defensive system, and you can see them starting to get back into that defensive form. The personnel issues and lack of top 4 quality guys are shining through, but at the very least from a structural POV they’re getting better.

You’re 100% right though, if they don’t get Demko back they’re going to continue flushing points down the toilet if Silovs has to play. Lankinen has been able to play a high percentage of games because of the breezy schedule, but that won’t work moving forward.

CBJ wanted Willander from us
Done in a heartbeat.
Now will be Willander plus for some immediate temporary help now or just picks? No cap space for anything else.
Unless there are legs to the Miller trade rumors on social media and some mainstream US reporters

It was supposedly Willander in place of Hunt, so + a bunch of picks too.

That part wouldn’t have been true. They wanted Willander but that was a non-starter for the Canucks so there’s no info on if they would have asked for me. The McGroarty for Yager deal would have been comparable.

I still don't think I'd do it even if it was straight up, but I'm not a huge fan of trades for projects as a "contending" team

There are enough differences in the size and styles between those 2, plus Yager is a C while Rutger is a Winger. Wallinder/Jiricek, both right shots, at least 6'2 each, with Jiricek a bigger shot while Wallinder the better skater. Unless, you felt Jiricek would step in right away, no reason to make that deal. (no way, since he could not beat out 2 of Harris, Chirsitenson or Johnson for a spot when Gudbranson was healthy). And when Gudbranson went down, CBJ opted to add help vs give him ice time.

This isn’t a contending team.

That's why I put it in quotes, I think the team is closer to contending than not contending but ultimately I don't think the team has enough time or patience to develop Jiricek at the NHL level, something he probably needs.

Would be Hoglander + 1st I’m guessing for Provorov. I’ve never been a fan of the player but would still be an upgrade. Just has to be with an extension. Can’t afford more rentals.
I dono Hog and 2nd (next years) I think would get it done.

Hog has been upside, even though he’s extremely frustrating
