If he works out, I'd hope to pay his rise in term rather than dollar amount. Basically, offer him the same deal Tanev got from the Leafs: 4.5x6.

Of course, this assumes he works out first.

Nobody is taking Desharnais. Fortunately, if worse comes to worse, he's mostly buriable.
Unfortunately there’s a cap.

I still don't know why a team with contending aspirations would want a guy like Jiricek, who can't crack a developing team's roster in Columbus and is mad about it. Even tonight, he had 2:30 of ice time in the first. Do people really think Tocchet is going to be easier on him than Evason in Columbus?

If this were Vancouver 2 years ago, I'd consider it more heavily, but where the team is in it's cycle it's way too risky to be giving up assets for a guy who's a big question mark.

Vancouver's probably scouting Provorov and Carlo today, although I doubt Carlo would be available given his age. Lindholm remains my dream acquisition, but the injury puts a major dent in that dream.

Because Jiricek will be a stud with good coaching and in a good situation.

no failed exits is attempts to clear the zone that don't cross the line. just wiring it up ice for a turnover counts as an exit as long as it clears the zone

Yeah but then you’ve just iced the puck if you aren’t killing.

If someone was to make advanced stats more accessible to the common fan, like almanac style with glossary and index, you eliminate communication problems like these with dinosaurs like me.

1 define your terms
2 show why this stat should carry value
3 make it quantifiable

Until then, reliance on just charts that are virtually illegible acronyms and a bunch of numbers. Then you present this issue and you just get a chorus of “educate yourself” by the same type of people jerking themselves off about how smart they are.

When you rely only on stats to form opinion esp when you can’t quantify luck something like a bounce off a stanchion.

Seravalli's interview with Canucks Central this evening.

Canucks
  • Miller benching was surprising
  • Canucks are at a really health 9-5-3 and know this isn’t good enough
  • Concerned and shocked at the inconsistency; team is now tentative and hesitant
  • Home and road splits are the most perplexing part
  • Last year, the Canucks knew everyone counted them out; Washington Capitals are going through that and feeding off it this year
  • Have higher expectations, new faces, and are no longer surprising anyone
  • Teams are now working harder against the Canucks
  • Rick Tocchet doesn’t speak in hyperbole so when he’s “sounding the alarm” that grabs attention
Miller
  • Would want to know more about Miller’s injury before saying that his spot on the 4-Nations roster is in jeopardy
  • No one will confirm his injury
  • Decisions for the 4-Nations rosters are 93% done
  • Has a hard time envisioning a world where Miller isn’t part of the tournament
Marcus Pettersson
  • Pittsburgh is hungry to do something and want to strike while they some teams that are interested
  • Interest in Pettersson has varied significantly over the years
  • Doesn’t know how interested the Canucks actually are in Pettersson
  • Believes the Canucks wanted Pettersson a few years ago
  • Cap hit and UFA status is tantalizing
  • Says Pettersson struggles with making quality first passes
  • Tocchet and staff have asked Allvin to get a defenceman that can efficiently move the puck to supplant some of their current players that have limitations
Trade Market
  • Rising cap means that players with term are more interesting
  • Lots of players extending with their current teams
  • Not shaping up to be a banner trade deadline class
  • Starting to see some teams getting antsy
  • Predators, Penguins, Sabres, and Bruins are all listening or interesting in making a trade
  • There’s also teams on the prowl, like the Canucks and Hurricanes, that are always open to making their teams better
  • Would be surprised if the Bruins tried a quick retool
  • Jim Montgomery is in a very unenviable position; last year of his deal and lots of fan outcry against him; approaching Boudreau-level

I bet the previous interest in Pettersson was when they got Hronek.

They probably offered the same package for both and Detroit bit first.

It may have come up more than once but there was rumoured interest at the 2022 draft, the same time the Penguins moved Marino to clear cap.

Vancouver

A lot of trash in Boston.

Players worth looking at imo would be Lohrei (McWard D partner in college and a pretty decent young upcoming dman), Zacha for middle 6 help (but barely an upgrade over Suter/Blueger at twice the cap hit), and some decent bottom 6 depth with size like Brazeau and Frederic.

Brazeau is intriguing though. Was noticeable against Florida in the playoffs last year and has size and speed.

He's gone for months with a 'lower body injury'. Is Adam Jiricek in the lineup for Columbus.? He's a young d-man, a former first rounder, who's been linked to the Canucks.

Hoglander and a pick or Jiricek?
Got my Jiricek's mixed up. 'David' is the Columbus d-man. Adam Jiricek is also a d-man drafted by the Blues last year. Assume they're brothers?

Apparently David and his agent want out of Columbus. Could be traded on the cheap.....but agree he'd probably need some development time before he would be in any position to help the Canucks.

Has McAvoy been bad this year?
I don't know but imagine him in our top 4 :DD. Lekkerimaki, 2 firsts plus would be a start towards a package if they were to tear it down for real. Of course we'd have to send dollars back but I don't think we even have enough bodies to get to 9.5 that we'd want to send or they'd want. Aaah was a nice dream for a minute !!

What about bringing back the old dog Luke Schenn? 2 years left on his contract, got a bit paid but prolly what he is worth with the rising cap
No.

He may get there, but that absolutely isn't a sure thing at this point IMO. he hasn't really developed much since being drafted and isn't a capable NHLer at this point.
CBJ has royally effed up his development. They send him down to the AHL for short periods, then call him up to sit in the press box or play 8 minutes on a given night. They've done it for two seasons in a row.

When Fabbro was waived there were a lot of Predators fans lamenting that that meant Schenn was going nowhere. I wouldn't touch him.
