I understand a move needs to be made. Alot of things need to be changed. But if we're trading 2 of our core players just because "the vibes are", well get ready for another decade of darkness.

At least being a Nuck fan has no shortage of drama!

I don't understand why some here thinks The returns will be super underwhelming..
I agree, Were gonna get a really good return for JT and Boeser, no doubt in my mind.
It's hard to predict, but this player has been a beast as recent as last season, including playoffs, for BOTH players.

Another "decade of darkness" because we had to make a couple of moves that might ultimately be necessary for team cohesiveness? Thats a tad dramatic.

Depends on what we can get back for them.

I think management is hesitant right now because they know they’re still in the playoff race being only a couple points out. Trading Miller or Boeser essentially means you’re giving up on the season because without them there’s no realistic chance we even have a chance at playoffs. If you trade them, you might as well be trading everyone else with a year or two left.

I can understand why management is cautious right now. A Hoglander or Desharnais trade isnt going to improve this roster so you might as well just keep them around and see how this team does with essentially a healthy line up right now and hope they can raise their values with good play.

They’re probably going to wait it out a bit longer. If the rest of January goes to shit, I can see them making significant changes right before the 4 Nations Face off.

There will come a point where if the losing continues, management has to address the direction they’re going to take.

Looking like a lost season? Take a page out of Washington’s book and do some roster renovations. Sell the upcoming UFA’s, kill the deadweight, accumulate assets, look for Hronek type deals with said assets, use the available cap space to target a marquee UFA (Ehlers, Bennett, M.Pettersson, Gavrikov, Provorov).

Miller, Boeser, Suter, Desharnais, Hoglander, Heinen, Soucy, Blueger, and Soucy should all fetch assets.

These next couple of months will show what Allvin/Rutherford are truly made of.

This is not a good mix, period. It hasn't been for 6+ years of this core. They are just not enough but with all the futures traded away and being capped out year after year to ice a losing team dark days will come.
Last year was a fluke, injuries, shooting %, timing of getting teams in the dumpster and tanking teams. Over 28 pts playing 4 teams.

The addition of Soucy, Zadorov and Cole mentoring Juulsen created a very stout defence allowing Hughes and Hronek to go crazy in offence.

That decade of darkness happened because there were not enough top player being added at the right time or drafted. Out of 11 first round picks only three made the team over a 4 year period and none since the last 4 years.

If the core, who still has value is dealt the return if planned for the future and not trying to get a playoff spot at all costs immediately would reduce that down by more than half probably less than 3 years.

Drama would be eliminated, leadership in the room solidified and a young group with upside for 6 years to their prime combined with cap certainty and space.

Tocchet would be the perfect coach to have a bunch of AHL guys come up and play dump and pray hockey, he would have those guys playing to get a contract and be able to hold that as leverage over them.

Agreed. If you could land 2 quality assets for each of Miller, Boeser and possibly Demko without taking on significant cap space it would be a win. We would have an enjoyable off season with a decent pick and potentially a big free agent or two.

We are in a decade of darkness, I don't mean to alarm you. A single playoff appearance doesn't dispel it. Maybe we emerge soon, maybe we dive back in. Doesn't mean we can leave the JT Miller situation alone to fester. Move him along, pick up the pieces.

Feels like some sort of Devils package around Nemec and Mercer might be the way to go here.

I don't understand how anyone here thinks trading Boeser and Miller is a good idea. The return will be super unwelming for either not to mention we probably won't make the playoffs again anytime in the next few years. Our best winger would be DeBrusk. And 2nd centre Suter? LMAO. Honestly I hope no trades happens and this core can reset in the off season and get a good piece on D and start fresh next year.
It’s looking more and more like it’s rebuild time

And we just had a decade of darkness. This is what shit ownership does to a team

Also personally I think we should try to keep Boeser but it's up to him if he wants to stay or not. He's a UFA and no doubt getting tired of this shit.

Also I would rather try for the playoffs with an extra defensemen back there and Suter playing 2C instead of Miller then this current status quo.

I agree with this the most. I know retool gets thrown around alot but if feel like it's one of those rare situations that may present itself. 90% of teams in a bad situation are better off doing a full blown rebuild. I feel like we fit in the 10% that could hopefully pull off a retool and use a reset to accumulate some futures this season and make a splash in the summer to stay competitive. Then say a prayer and hope it all comes together and we remain competitive. We do have a prime Hughes and Pettersson afterall.

A package of Mercer and Nemec is a fantasy.
You’re underrating the value that Miller has around the league. His power forward playstyle when he’s on his game makes him a unicorn type of player in todays league, and there surely will be a few GM’s who will overpay the Canucks if it means getting him for a few playoff runs and making sure he isn’t traded to a rival in their division (Devils and Rangers)

Whatever their plan is, it is the puck and the on-ice product that will do the talking. People are asking for change because right now the on-ice product is slightly better than what Bond had to endure in Casino Royale.

I'm shocked by the lack of imagination in here.

The most Canucks outcome isn't that we make a good trade or bad trade, it's Miller and Boeser getting banged up on awkward, nothing hits, putting them on LTIR for 4 months and tanking their value completely.

As I have said, make a deal only if there is a good deal to be had. I can't see Miller staying for any length of time, and let him go try his personality somewhere back east. Take the best off over the next couple of weeks.
