I don't get the sense Quinn dislikes JT either, but I also really don't think brass would have concluded they need to trade JT if Quinn wasn't on board, or at least leaning in that direction.

Given the calibre of player JT is, the preferred scenario is obviously to keep him. He must really rub everyone on the team the wrong way if they decided six weeks ago that the situation has gone too far.

Like Vector said, Miller is also a substantially better player than Hertl. So that kind of evens it out.

He was 30 years old when they acquiring him. They have Hertl for the entirety of his 31-through-36 seasons. Any team getting Miller is getting him for the entirety of his age 32-through-36 seasons.

Well he'd just turned 30, whereas Miller is <2 months from 32. I'm going by HockeyDB's "season age" which is a better comparison IMO.

Well Boeser is nowhere near the level of Hull so that comparison aren't really relevant. Also, Hull's best seasons has prime Oates and Modano as his center, it wasn't like he was scoring 70 with nobody good feeding him the puck.

Aside from you disliking the comparison, I'm not sure we are disagreeing apart from conclusions drawn. Hull does benefit from having a playmaking C feeding him but is that a bad thing? Like Mogilny was at his best when he had a good C feeding him. Of course Boeser benefits from playing with good players but it's not like he can't score playing with different Cs.

Lets just say that we have our difference preferences, and we probably see each players differently going forward. I think Boeser will have a much steeper decline sooner due to foot speed, so any long term deal for him is extra risky comparing to Ehler. And that is essentially what it is signing a long term deal for these guys, its how you project them going forward.

I get that but when you're giving out these long term $$$ deals, the priority isn't the back end of it but the front end of it. Of course if the assessment is that Boeser will decline "soon" then of course you should think twice about giving him a 7-8 year contract. That has nothing to do with Ehlers.

For me, I don't want to build a team that wins only in the regular season. Ehlers has not shown the ability to produce in the playoffs. Meanwhile we've seen Boeser score some big goals in the playoffs. Plus it's not like Ehlers isn't injury prone. So that should be factored in as well if you think he will simply age well.

It really isn't. Hertl turned 30 in November of last season. Last season was his age 30 season. This is Miller's age 31 season because he doesn't turn 32 until near the end of the season.

True Canucks luck would have him hang a knee on Pettersson and both would end up (k)needing full ACL reconstruction surgeries.

IIRC the reporting was they they decided on moving Miller. This tracks with them having to put Miller in time-out for a month to get a break from antics.

I wouldn't really characterize eventually trading both goalies in 2013 as "good", when it immediately preceded the worst era in franchise history. I don't think we want that outcome.

I have trouble believing that we need to add to "get rid of" Miller.

I think the "sweetener" part can mean different things. If say Carolina is trading Kotkaniemi and Roslovic then ya they would want another forward back. Unless there's a forward stuck in the farm system, a completely expendable forward etc. a team that is looking to win now generally won't be looking to deal 2 roster forwards for one unless it's an absolute must to make the cap work. It's not like Carolina has a lot of cap space remaining if they do that swap though.

And we're likely not talking about 1 for 1 swap here so "adding" another piece to make the deal work isn't the negative that some are interpreting it as. Buffalo "added" a 3rd in the Eichel deal.

• Thinks Miller was notified it was a possibility he would be traded over the weekend
• Convinced it was the Rangers
• Not sure what happened to caused it to fall apart

yeah i think this offseason could see substantial change depending on if (and how badly) they miss the playoffs



i think there's 0% chance yzerman reacquires miller. buffalo and boston both seem possible but i doubt miller waives for either as long as new york is on the table

I think New York could quickly be off the table if the offer does not improve. More bidders could also make New York more serious.

Buffalo and Cplumbus are on the cusp of something. In Buffalo's case they need impact veterans.
