Sounds like minimal interest outside NYR at this stage, and they are messing around. Just pull him off the market till the TDL. Rangers actually want a sweetener.

  • Hurricanes are not really an option and neither are the Stars or Devils
  • Sources suggest to Postmedia that the Hurricane’s interest is pretty minimal; only looking to win the trade
  • If the Hurricanes acquire Miller they would want another forward back with him if they are sending Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jack Roslovic
  • Eyes should be focused on the Rangers since a deal with them is closest to reality
  • Hold-up with the Rangers is how a trade is structured
  • Moving Miller would involve attaching a sweetener; salary retention or a prospect
  • Seems the Canucks’ players are waiting for something to happen too

what makes him a better two way player? he’s 3 years younger than Suter but puts up around similar numbers besides 2 seasons ago.

To me, Suter at 1.6M and without the injury concerns is more valuable. Unlike others, I firmly believe Suter nets you a 2nd rounder. Blueger went for a 3rd 2 years ago.
Agree. Suter and Blueger are more valuable given their contracts and durability. I much prefer them right now. Hell, I would re-sign Suter to 3.5 mil over 4 years.

Chytil has better offensive and playmaking skills and is really good in his own zone. The issue is he's perpetually banged up and never in game shape.

  • Offers haven’t been great; a deal would have been done if they were
  • Some offers have been lowballs
  • Turns 32 next month, 5 years left on his contract at 8m, having an off-year, issues with Pettersson, and had a leave of absence
  • Rangers are still in the mix but are 6-0-3 and can be more patient
  • Hurricanes have interest but have a very hands-on owner that likes to bargain shop
  • Tom Dundon, Hurricanes owner, is well known for calling agents during contract negotiations and reminding them of the low cost of living and low taxes in Carolina
  • Believes the Devils like Miller a lot but making a trade for them is a lot tougher
  • Hasn’t been asked to waive his NMC
  • Would assume Canucks have no interest in retaining
  • Canucks must be frustrated as they aren’t getting fair value in return
  • Hear a lot about the Blackhawks but isn’t sure if it’s over Miller or Pettersson
  • So many teams checked in on him; teams love his physicality and edge
  • Everyone loves Miller the player but don’t love his contract and there’s dressing room issues
Pettersson
  • Everything is on the table right now
  • Not happy after the Buffalo game
  • If the Canucks are still taking calls on Pettersson, he has to be in play too
  • His name is still out there

Huge management mistake for how they handled that leave of absence.

Is EP not happy after Buff game? Or management?

That's it, trade them both, but if they need to wait until the off-season or when there's clarity around the cap increase, that's fine. No deal right now is better than a bad deal.

Focus on getting help on D and ride it out, if necessary. Winning more games might solve a lot.

Jeez, just wait then. We owe Drury and the Rangers nothing.

Miller's going to play at the Four Nations. A lot can happen there. If it goes poorly, more teams will have cap space in the offseason.

This definitely feels like how things felt when we were dealing Kesler.

The team was put into a bind where we had almost zero leverage and things were just souring more and more in the dressing room so we had no choice but to make a crappy trade. I admire that Allvin is trying to hold the line and not get taken to the cleaners, but it feels like something has to give.

No, I really like Suter, and think he is worth more than others might think.

I’m not sure I believe this to be the case. I find it really hard Quinn dislikes JT.
A second Pius Suter would be a useful addition.

I don't get the sense Quinn dislikes JT either, but I also really don't think brass would have concluded they need to trade JT if Quinn wasn't on board, or at least leaning in that direction.

Given the calibre of player JT is, the preferred scenario is obviously to keep him. He must really rub everyone on the team the wrong way if they decided six weeks ago that the situation has gone too far.

Glad to hear we're no longer trading Miller and everyone just has to figure it out one way or another.

Mockery aside, it's beyond ridiculous we'd have to pay for the privilege of saving New York's disaster of a season and Drury's job. At this point, shut down any discussions and revisit it in the off season.

I have trouble believing that we need to add to "get rid of" Miller.

I think the "sweetener" part can mean different things. If say Carolina is trading Kotkaniemi and Roslovic then ya they would want another forward back. Unless there's a forward stuck in the farm system, a completely expendable forward etc. a team that is looking to win now generally won't be looking to deal 2 roster forwards for one unless it's an absolute must to make the cap work. It's not like Carolina has a lot of cap space remaining if they do that swap though.

And we're likely not talking about 1 for 1 swap here so "adding" another piece to make the deal work isn't the negative that some are interpreting it as. Buffalo "added" a 3rd in the Eichel deal.

Probably the worst outcome for the Canucks is trading Miller for something perceived as a subpar return, the team continues to suck, and basically nobody shows up for games anymore and the disinterest around the team gets worse heading into the summer. Oh, and then Miller will undoubtedly have a renaissance actually caring for his new team, and make them look even worse.

all of this is baked in to a miller trade imo

I really wonder if Buffalo, Detroit and Boston enter the conversation. Hell, even Philly. I know the contender filter does not fit for most of those, but there is an arguably better trade fit for Miller with any of those teams than the NYR. Heck even Columbus would fit if they get desperate due to injuries.

Aquilini is gonna doing something crazy. I doubt this is an even remotely acceptable outcome to him.

yeah i think this offseason could see substantial change depending on if (and how badly) they miss the playoffs

i think there's 0% chance yzerman reacquires miller. buffalo and boston both seem possible but i doubt miller waives for either as long as new york is on the table
